Machine Operation Technician-R&D

Kimberly-Clark is seeking an Operations Technician to work in its nonwovens research pilot line facility located in Roswell, GA. The individual will conduct hands-on work with industrial scale pilot equipment. A variety of experiments or trials are conducted each week with the goal of developing new innovations for well-known Kimberly-Clark products such as Huggies®, Pull-Ups®, Kotex®, Depend®, Kimtech™ Apparel, and WypAll® wipers. There is an expectation that the individual will gain deep knowledge of the machine over time, enabling them to troubleshoot, perform basic maintenance, and make recommendations on process adjustments for successful trials. Daily responsibilities include: - Heat up of equipment and raw material preparation - Discussion of trial plan with researcher - Running trials, adjusting process settings and troubleshooting issues as needed - Packaging of trial materials produced - Cool down of equipment and clean-up of work area
• Operate and maintain pilot-scale manufacturing equipment • Comply with facility and asset safety rules • Participate in facility and asset safety initiatives • Effectively troubleshoot issues, solve problems and take corrective actions • Contribute to evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations in regard to experiments and projects • Communicate project information with appropriate people in a timely manner • Work as a member of a Research & Engineering team • Assist on technical programs contributing in an area of specialization • Generate new, workable ideas, methods, and concepts.

Basic Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent plus 3-8 years of relevant machine operation experience (or equivalent) • Ability to trouble-shoot problems as they arise • Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a high-performance team • Ability to adapt to frequent changes • Basic knowledge of computers, Windows, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel) • Mechanical aptitude (knowledge of equipment such as motors, pumps, valves, etc.) • Good math skills including the ability to perform simple calculations when provided the necessary inputs • Good communication, listening, and leadership skills • A strong desire to learn new skills and technologies • Physical requirements include: o Stand and walk 90% of shift o Reach, bend, squat, and climb stairs frequently during a shift o Perform moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs) several times per shift o Use small hand tools o Learn to drive mobile powered equipment such as fork lift, pallet mule, and scissor lift • Work environment can include: o Frequent exposure to high noise levels requiring hearing protection o Frequent exposure to hot equipment surfaces (up to 600F) o Occasional exposure to temperature extremes below 32F and above 90F o Occasional exposure to equipment that may interfere with pacemakers o Rare exposure to conditions requiring respirator PPE Preferred Qualifications: • 2-4 years post-high school technical education plus 5-10 years of relevant experience • Machine operation experience in some of the following areas is strongly desired: o Nonwovens o Polymer extrusion o Pulp and paper processing o Working with continuous webs or materials • Equipment maintenance experience • Electrical systems knowledge • Background in material quality testing • Operations leadership experience • Research and pilot line experience

Standard hours are Monday – Thursday, 7:00am – 5:30pm. At times, there is overtime after 5:30 or on Fridays.
