Project Manager, Motherships

Your Mission

Seeking a Project Manager to lead the design, build, and test of a new fleet of Motherships with experience starting and executing new aircraft programs. You will be supporting ongoing activities within a new program advancing and transforming the future of commercial suborbital space travel. The vision of this program is to develop the next generation air launch platform designed for mission, maintainability, and manufacturing to support our goal of 400 flights per year from each spaceport.

    Lead the development of Virgin Galactic's fleet of Motherships with a goal to design and manufacture the future of Motherships' for the company Build, develop, and mentor a collaborative project leadership team within a matrixed organization enabling cross-functional program team environment Lead by example through Virgin Galatic's values, in with respect to straight-up way which fosters, transparent, and open communication. Apply technical expertise, leadership skills and program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality and safety to further the advancement of human spaceflight Develop the detailed program plan that creates the roadmap to successfully development of a fleet of motherships Work with other company leaders in engineering, manufacturing, and support organizations to gather history and experience to inform project planning and steering Review detailed development, engineering and manufacturing plans and ensure that they align with program requirements Execute program plans to design and manufacture a fleet of next generation motherships with accountability to budget and schedule Proactively maintain and track program risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed Regularly report to executive leadership and the wider organization the projects status and performance
What you bring
    Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or science related field, PMP certification preferred 10+ years industry experience in progressive program management roles projects or components to subsystem or systems Energetic, passionate and organized program leader ready to lead a project through the full lifecycle Experience providing leadership and management for multidisciplinary teams of engineering, manufacturing, and business support personnel Demonstrated success managing aerospace programs and projects of flight vehicles Experience with complex supply chain management Experience with production of aerospace vehicles Engineering experience of aerospace vehicles or systems Experience in composite manufacturing Strong written and verbal communication skills Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting Experience with logic linked scheduling and Cost Account Management Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, requirements management processes Experience in budget management and reporting Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people Self-directed with demonstrated passion for space and aerospace development. Resourceful and entrepreneurial to continually elevate Virgin Galactic's Mothership Program Team
