Flight Simulator Design Engineer

This position includes systems design and construction tasks as well as hands-on test and operations tasks. The scope of this position will be hands-on with multiple disciplines: avionics hardware, flight sciences, flight test, data acquisition, flight controls, electrical design, flight software, vehicle guidance navigation - control, systems reliability, and others. The role directly develops, documents, tests, and debugs simulator hardware, systems, and software. Supports engineering evaluation campaigns that will use simulators for engineering analysis ranging from human factors studies through complex integrated systems evaluations.

Responsibilities

    Designs and develops Flight Simulator Performs system design, integration, testing, and documentation of simulated/emulated avionics hardware and software. Supports test and evaluation for Engineering and Pilot Coordinates with multiple Engineering, Operations, and Manufacturing disciplines on requirements development, hardware/software design, verification, and validation activities. Partners with teammates to develop solutions for long term hardware and software support. Validates simulator performance based on analysis of flight test data. Collaborates with engineers and designers on modifications and design change proposals for flight vehicles. Reviews and proposes concepts for redesign recommendations based on operational experience, reliability, maintainability, etc.

What you bring

Basic Qualifications

    B. S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar degree required. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with flight simulators or avionics engineering on developmental or operational aircraft or spacecraft. Familiar with the systems engineering process. Ability to troubleshoot electromechanical and avionics systems. Experience with MATLAB and Simulink model development. Experience with 6-DOF aircraft flight dynamics simulation. Familiar with software development with any of the following: C++, Java, MS Visual Basic, Python. Must be a "U.S. person" as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR 120.15).

Desired Qualifications

    Hands-on aviation experience Experience: Private Pilot Certificate or higher. Aviation Maintenance Experience A&P Certificate or other practical experience. Expert with MATLAB and Simulink development. Familiar with ARP-4754, DO-178, and DO-254. Practical experience with aircraft handling qualities and dynamics. Practical experience with glass panel avionics displays. Familiarity with aviation navigation and Instrument Flight Rules operations. Experience with aerodynamic model development and troubleshooting.
