Location: Centennial, CO (Travel to Decatur, AL & Switzerland required)
Job Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $72.79 - $80.06 per hour

Summary of the Role:

Are you a seasoned expert in carbon composite manufacturing, ready to make a significant impact in the aerospace industry? As a Subject Matter Expert – Carbon Composite Process Engineer at PDS Tech Commercial, you’ll drive process improvements and lead the development of cutting-edge composite materials used in aerospace structures. Your deep expertise will shape the future of aerospace manufacturing, collaborating with teams across the globe and influencing processes from materials selection to fabrication.

What You’ll Do:

• Audit and Analyze: Conduct comprehensive reviews of composite documentation from suppliers, including materials selection, test programs, and qualification processes.
• Drive Process Improvements: Audit and improve suppliers' composite fabrication processes, from process development to qualification.
• Innovative Test Programs: Design and implement testing strategies focused on composite materials and manufacturing process enhancements.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with Design, Systems, and Analyst engineering teams to identify challenges, prioritize issues, and successfully complete projects.
• Travel: Up to 50% travel to Decatur, AL and Switzerland to support composite projects and operations.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in composite manufacturing, particularly with carbon composite materials and processes, including:
  • Carbon/Epoxy manual layup
  • Composite design allowable development
  • Troubleshooting manufacturing issues and implementing corrective actions
• Aerospace Expertise: Strong background in aerospace composite structures—both development and fabrication.
• Technical Acumen: Proven ability to resolve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.
• This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.    

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with carbon/phenolic composite systems.
• Familiarity with filament winding or tape placement composite manufacturing.
• Expertise in C/C or C/SiC composites.
• Experience with out-of-autoclave curing of carbon/epoxy composites.
• Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) in manufacturing settings.
