Structural Analysis Engineer 5

Description:
Plans and organizes structural analysis work at the program level to assure total compliance with structural integrity and stability requirements. Develops, integrates and documents complex or unique structural requirements to establish the system design. Coordinates with other engineering groups to establish the product's environment. Guides product design and verifies structural integrity by defining requirements for development of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance of the product. Works with customers and regulatory agencies to define certification processes that will ensure requirements are met. Reviews and approves certification results. Develops test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Defines and organizes test programs to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied. Develops analytical processes/tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort. Investigates emerging technologies to develop future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under consultative direction.

Technical Competencies
• Accident & Fleet Support
Knowledge of flight vehicle dynamics, design requirements, flight simulation, kinematics, flight operations and procedures, in-service problem resolution, repairs effects on continued airworthiness, assessment of Service Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives.
• Aircraft Structure
Knowledge of aircraft structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, and processes (e.g. non destructive testing, corrosion prevention)
• Analysis/Design Optimization
Ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives. Includes the ability to apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools. Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration.
• Analytical Skills (Technical)
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
• Analyze & Interpret Engr Data
Ability to analyze problems (troubleshooting, fault isolation, repair, modification, or redesign) of assigned end items to support the design, development and modification of company products using knowledge of engineering disciplines (ME, EE, etc.).
• Computer Aided Design Tools
Knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).
• Customer Knowledge
Knowledge of techniques to help identify a customer's organization, capabilities, practices, support resources, preferences, problems, and other constraints in order to provide effective product support and technical issue resolution.
• Customer Maintenance
Knowledge of customer's maintenance concepts, processes (e.g., supply, procurement), and support systems.
• Design / Produce Process
Knowledge of company design, production, and build processes (e.g., maintenance access solid, dependability cost model, produceability trade offs) to effectively influence product design.
• Design Concepts & Techniques
Advanced knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A]).
• Design/Test/Cert Regulations
Knowledge of appropriate customer or governmental regulations relevant to design, test, and certification (e.g., Part 25, MILSPEC).
• Engineering Analysis
Knowledge of engineering analysis (e.g. mechanical, electrical, avionics, design, circuit, systems, stress, structural, durability).
• Engineering Judgment
Exercises engineering judgment in developing appropriate decisions considering decision criteria, implications, and possible consequences, to ensure product design integrity. Demonstrates understanding of the applicable scientific and engineering knowledge and involves others in obtaining information for the engineering decision-making process.
• Engineering Processes
Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business).

Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering technical information (e.g., , drawings, handbooks, industry standards and specifications).
• Engineering Tests Techniques
Knowledge of engineering tests techniques, including handling qualities, performance, systems testing, structural loads, weapons separation, propulsion, etc.
• Engr Knowledge/Comprehension
Knowledge of various engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and systems. The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables.
• Failure Modes Effcts & Critic
Knowledge of Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), including system, sub-system, functional (electrical/mechanical), component and device level.
• Industry Knowledge
Knowledge of the industry environment. To include customers and their business models, competitors, general market forces, global economy, market trends, regulatory environments, and political forces/realities.
• Mathematical Reasoning
Ability to determine, apply, and perform arithmetic operations in order to solve complex math problems. This includes the ability to extract relevant information from tables, charts, graphs, text, spot relevant trends in data, and create and document models that can be used by others.
• Presentation Skills/Techniques
Knowledge of presentation techniques (e.g., posture, speaker's relationship to audience, use of intonation and props, use of visual aids and pacing).
• Product Certification
Knowledge of the processes and procedures for certification of product, including Federal Aviation Authority [FAA] and foreign regulatory agency (e.g., JAA) requirements. Knowledge of airworthiness standards related to transport aircraft (e.g., FAR part 25). Knowledge of product performance in various situations/conditions. Ability to assess type design data for showing compliance.
• Product Maintenance
Knowledge of product maintenance processes, policies, culture, and standard practices (e.g., return to service, normal duties/responsibilities, time constraints, available resources) in order to effectively represent the operator within the Company.
• Reliability Center Maintenance
Knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), and Maintenance Review Board (MRB) analysis to effectively develop maintenance programs. This includes knowledge of failure modes, condition monitoring, repair schemes
• Specific Supportability
Knowledge of customer, regulatory agency, industry, and company policies, practices, and procedures as they apply to customer maintenance concepts and processes (e.g. supply, procurement, ) as well as technical documentation, support equipment and systems, part interchangeability, data reliability analysis, data extraction, and service related problem resolution.
• Structural Repair
Knowledge of structural repair principles (e.g., fatigue and corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques). Knowledge of structural repair, overhaul, nondestructive inspection, corrosion control, and composites.
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
