Supplier Quality & Development Engineer

Field Support SQE/SDE (Supplier Quality-Supplier Development Engineer)

Location: Remote but would like candidates with home base in Southern California, New England, Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana

Overview

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for supporting the supply chain associated with various launch vehicle subassemblies for Belcan's client located in Kent Washington. As a Field SQE/SDE you will work with suppliers of aerospace hardware to improve outcomes in quality, cost and delivery.

As an integral part of Belcan's overall supplier management support team, the Field Support SQE/SDE will manage suppliers at supplier sites, establishing and tracking lines of balance for delivery assurance, identifying production interrupts and working with the suppliers on recovery plans, identifying technical upsets that challenge the connection between product design intent and supplier capabilities and capacity and generally working toward an improvement of the overall supply chain element. You may be asked to manage multiple suppliers and multiple supplier sites, geographically dispersed for rapid response.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.

Duration: 1 year (with likely extension)

Pay: $40-60/hour

Responsibilities:
* Use quality tools to develop strategic objectives and tactical implementation for different process elements to improve, measure, monitor supplier performance.
* Improve supplier performance (i.e. quality, delivery and costs) through process optimization using process analysis and development tools by driving continuous improvement within supplier operations through deployment of development plans.
* Establish and maintain a qualified and preferred supply base
* Assess and communicate technical risks and mitigation associated with the supply base.
* Design and maintain forms for recording, evaluating and reporting quality and delivery of supplier products.
* Implement supplier scorecard and work with supply base to improve performance.
* Work independently on multiple projects to solve problems of various degrees of complexity and lead projects to improve supplier performance creating development plans for key suppliers.
* Maintain supplier quality Approved Vendor List and generate supplier performance reports.
* Perform and coordinate audits to validate supplier's processes and capabilities.
* Works with suppliers and client engineering functions on value engineering activities.
* Work content requires extensive travel throughout the country as well as frequent driving to supplier facilities for source inspections, surveys and other required activities.
* Administers Supplier Corrective Action system and works with suppliers to resolve/correct quality and delivery problems.
* Responsible for detecting, investigating, leading, and driving down complex supplier issues surrounding complex mechanical and electronics sub-assemblies.

Required:
* Five+ Years of experience in Supplier Quality or Supplier Development engineering or management.
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or other similar technical program in Aerospace hardware industry
* Knowledge in Supplier surveillance, and technical/delivery recovery planning and execution
* Working knowledge in one more is a must: mechanical, electronic, or hybrid aerospace hardware.
* Remote opportunity with weekly rotational on-site supplier support likely 50-100% travel
* Working knowledge of Six Sigma Improvement techniques, AS9100 program requirements, and continuous improvement techniques applicable to supplier improvement.
* Experience with the engineering change process and configuration management.
* Knowledge of master production planning and quality systems
* Solid understanding of technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications.
* Due to the nature of the work candidates must be a US Citizens

Preferred:
* ASQ Certification is a plus
* Strong understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) as it applies to Supplier Management
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
* Communicate efficiently throughout procurement and directly with customer's/suppliers management
* Diplomatic approach to relationships
* Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies
* Assertive, optimistic, resilient and welcomes change
* Engages interest and participation of others and has a collaborative approach to working together
* Shows moral courage, openness and honesty in all dealings
* Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
* Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or similar qualification or studying towards CIPS qualification would be beneficial
