Engineering Technician

PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technician.

  • Looking for an experienced engineering technician with familiarity working with the design and testing of scientific instrumentation. Support engineering teams with system and component level testing, electronic troubleshooting, executing test plans under the direction of senior systems engineers. Other duties include assembling complex prototype instrument systems and subassemblies and writing comprehensive test reports.
  • The position will work under the direction of project engineering and the development team to assist in the design, assembly, and testing of optical and electromechanical components, equipment and systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommend changes in product or test method.
  • Test performance of FTIR and Raman spectrometers and associated components. Verify instrument performance to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Test performance of optical and electromechanical assemblies, using test instruments such as oscilloscopes, electronic voltmeters, and other lab test equipment.
  • Read engineering drawings, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly.
  • Install optical components and electrical or electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies, using soldering equipment and hand tools.
  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts, using hand or power tools, machines, fixtures, or templates.
  • Inspect electronic parts for defects. Including circuit boards, sensors, relays, power supplies, DC, AC, Stepper and Servo motors, and other electronic and motion control components
  • Analyze and record test results and prepare written testing documentation.
  • Verify part dimensions or clearances to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments
  • Repair, rework, rebuild or calibrate electromechanical assemblies or systems to meet operational specifications or tolerances
  • Assist with design of optical and electromechanical assemblies
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

  • 2-yr Technical college degree with 2 yrs minimum experience, Electrical or Mechanical Engineer Degree is a nice to have.


  • Minimum 2 years relevant technician experience in an engineering new product development environment. 5+ years preferred.
  • Skillful in machine construction, test setup, measurement, and analysis.
  • Experience in lathes and milling machines a plus.
  • Experience with SolidWorks software, a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the practical application of electronics and motion control technology.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, data recorders, and computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications a plus.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret technical documents.
  • Able to write reports and procedure manuals.
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skillful in the use of machines, tools and measurement equipment.
  • Skillful in efficient planning and use of time.
  • Skillful in MS Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
