This position is CONTRACT TO HIRE and responsible for supporting the daily technical operation and maintenance program activities of the flying assets while ensuing compliance to regulatory and quality compliance requirements. This position functions out of the Tech Ops department coordinating with vehicle maintenance, supply chain, engineering, GSE, facilities and flight operations to properly support all facets of the Technical Operations Group. The Assistant Chief Inspector is expected to apply professional experience, knowledge, and guidance to help resolve complex problems and ensure safe operations within the multifaceted regulatory operations environment.

    Exercise delegated authority over the technical quality control and quality assurance program elements as defined in the General Maintenance Manual (GMM) and human spaceflight program requirements General responsibilities and oversight will include but not limited to asset inspection program elements, flight and ground asset material receiving & inspection, audit programs, quality investigations, component quarantine process, workmanship standards, asset records, and compliance discipline Assist the Head of Regulatory Compliance with air vehicle airworthiness requirements including compliance to applicable FAA regulations, currency of FAA airworthiness certificates, operating limitations, FAA office liaison and vehicle registrations Work with the Technical Operations group in drafting and implementing standards, processes and procedures for the General Maintenance Manual (GMM) Accountable manager of the Required Inspection Items (RII) Program and the Continuous Tech Ops Safety System (CTOSS) Participate and assist in investigations, corrective actions and preventive actions within the company safety management system (SMS) program Develop and provide qualified personnel to perform daily quality control & assurance tasks for the effective and safe execution of vehicle maintenance programs and human spaceflight operations Provide guidance and assistance to Tech Ops personnel on compliance and process requirements related to vehicle airworthiness for both experimental category as well as standard category certificated vehicles Develop and guide the Technical Operations department understanding and comprehension to all applicable regulatory requirements as well as create the processes and procedures that support compliance to those requirements Ensure that flight vehicles are maintained in a safe and legal manner Manage and maintain aircraft records within company and regulatory requirements Establish, implement and administrate the Unapproved Part Notification (UPN) and Suspected Unapproved Parts (SUP) processes Establish, report and present business metrics, objectives, budgets, staffing, goals and audits for the Tech Ops Quality department The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.

What You Need

    Four year degree in a technical field and/or an equivalent experience preferably in aviation Must have FAA Mechanic certification with Airframe & Powerplant ratings Must have 10 years or more experience related to aviation maintenance Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Must have knowledge of computers and software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook Must have good working knowledge of FAA Regulation Parts 1 through 193 Must be willing to be onsite and if open to converting direct must be able to relocate permanently to Las Cruces, New Mexico or the surrounding area

Self-motivated and can work independently while still keeping a team perspective Experience in a leadership role with a FAA certificated MRO or operator (FAR Part 121, 135, 145) Knowledge of and experience with FAA commercial space regulations is a plus

    Must be highly organized and able to handle stressful situations Must be able to respond to and support the operations 24/7 as needed Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods 10 hours min.
