Space System Safety Engineer

Description:
Chipton Ross is seeking a Space System Safety Engineer for an opening in Centennial, CO.


With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude for initiating and developing designs, procedures, techniques and solution to resolving advanced technical engineering problems. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of broad specifications, objectives, possible results anticipated and critical reference points requiring special attention.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
" Identify, analyze, and mitigate potential hazards and risks associated with system designs in order to achieve enterprise and customer safety objectives while ensuring that the systems remain operationally responsive and effective
" Perform systematic and comprehensive assessments on the system architecture, integrated design, software, support equipment, and installation of the subsystems, and system tests to ensure that relevant safety requirements are met
" Ensure system safety planning, processes, procedures, and protections are properly implemented in support operations at on-site and off-site satellite production facilities
" Provide real-time support to critical and hazardous operations in a satellite production facility
" Develop contingency plans and procedures to ensure safe operating conditions are maintained in both nominal and off-nominal situations involving space flight hardware, software, support equipment, and/or personnel interaction
" Coordinate and collaborate across stakeholders (engineering, EHS, technicians, quality, leadership, customers) to ensure safety is integral to all activities and operations
" Sustain and support the development of system safety planning, requirements, analysis tools, and data packages
" Review engineering design specifications, test operations procedures, change proposals, deficiency reports, exceptions, and/or deviation/waiver requests for potential test safety impacts
" Participating in incident investigations and root cause/corrective action analyses as requested.
" Responsible for development of programmatic deliverables which include but not limited to: System Safety Program Plans, Hazard Analysis, and Missile System Pre-Launch Safety Package
" Support preparation of presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer & ESG safety boards, System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs), program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews
" Develops innovative but practical solutions to advanced technical problems in engineering.
" Provides focal point for technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.
" Presents report(s) at engineering meetings, participates in program reviews and consults on problems.
" Provides expert guidance and consulting to other staff members working on difficult engineering problems.
" Anticipates future engineering needs and the modifications required to accomplish a technical goal.
" Addresses complex and difficult technical issues requiring novel and highly creative approaches drawing on advanced engineering concepts.
" May assume technical and engineering responsibility of the success of an identifiable project.
" Directs activities of design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
" Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
" Performs other duties as assigned.
" Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS::
" Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
" Must have at least 4 years of spacecraft or space system design experience.
" Great interpersonal skills working in a team environment. Clear communication skills for collaborating with customers and outside entities.
" Experience in System Safety Engineering analysis and work products including but not limited to: fault tree analysis, hazard analysis and other range safety deliverables
" Working knowledge of AFSPCMAN 91-710 requirements, processes, and deliverables for range safety
" Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such ase.g. DOORS, MagicDraw, Cameo, MATLAB
" Must have or be able to obtain a DOD TS security clearance
" Must be able and willing to travel to support pre-launch and launch operations
" Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
" Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
" Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems. Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment. Able to work extended hours as required.

A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, and invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium are desirable.
