Senior Software Engineer – Computer Vision & AI

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aerospace industry to hire a Senior Software Engineer to support the Avionics Common Development Environment team. This role sits at the intersection of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and avionics certification, enabling enterprise-wide automation and innovation across critical aerospace programs.

In this highly visible role, you will serve as the technical authority for a computer vision product used across the organization—driving design, deployment, optimization, and adoption.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead both technical execution and team collaboration, including:

• Acting as the focal subject matter expert for all computer vision capabilities

• Leading technical decisions, system design, and implementation of new features

• Optimizing and enhancing existing computer vision solutions

• Setting up and managing sandbox environments for technology incubation

• Working across teams to enable rapid onboarding and adoption of new tools

• Mentoring, training, and onboarding engineers

• Leading a scrum team and supporting Agile best practices

• Tracking work, managing unplanned events, and communicating progress to stakeholders

• Supporting the full software development lifecycle, including certification phases

Required Qualifications

• Degree in STEM with 8+ years of relevant experience
  OR
  Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience
  OR
  12+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree

• Experience across all phases of the software engineering lifecycle, including certification

• Strong background in computer vision and artificial intelligence

• Experience with DevSecOps / Cert DevOps environments

• Proficiency with tools and technologies including:

  • GitLab, Git, CMake, MinGW

  • LynxOS, Coverity, Artifactory, Docker, Vista

• Experience with Python and scripting languages

• Experience with AI training frameworks

• Experience with simulation environments (Vista, CoreSim)

• Experience developing APIs and servers (Flask, FastAPI)

• Strong knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  
  This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.                                               
   

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting avionics or safety-critical software environments

• Prior leadership experience guiding engineering or scrum teams

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex technical environments

• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, leadership, and customers
