Senior Software Engineer – Computer Vision & AI

PDS Tech Commercial | Partnering with a Global Aerospace Leader

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 1st Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Job Type: Full-Time Consultant (6 Months)
Pay Rate: $80.93 per hour

This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.                                               
 

Transform Avionics Through Intelligent Software

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with an industry-leading aerospace organization to support its Avionics Common Development Environment (ACDE) team—a group at the forefront of digital transformation across avionics programs. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will serve as the subject matter expert for computer vision and artificial intelligence, leading the design, deployment, and evolution of advanced automation tools used across the enterprise. Your work will directly enable safer, smarter, and more efficient avionics systems.

What You’ll Do Day to Day

• Serve as the technical focal point for architecture, design, and implementation of computer vision capabilities

• Lead the development of new features and enhancements for enterprise-wide computer vision products

• Optimize and maintain existing software capabilities for performance and scalability

• Establish and own sandbox environments for technology incubation and experimentation

• Lead and support a Scrum team of software engineers

• Collaborate across engineering teams, departments, and stakeholders to enable rapid technology adoption

• Mentor, train, and onboard engineers to ensure long-term capability growth

• Apply DevSecOps and Cert DevOps practices across the full software lifecycle, including certification phases

• Communicate effectively with peers, leadership, and customers to provide technical clarity and progress updates

• Manage competing priorities, unplanned events, and evolving technical challenges with confidence

Required Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years of relevant experience OR

• Advanced degree with 5+ years of relevant experience OR

• In lieu of a degree, 12+ years of relevant software engineering experience

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on experience across all phases of the software engineering lifecycle, including certification

• Strong background in computer vision principles and AI/ML applications

• Experience with DevSecOps and Cert DevOps practices

• Proficiency with tools and technologies including:

  • GitLab, Git, CMake, MinGW

  • LynxOS, Coverity, Artifactory, Docker

  • Vista, CoreSim

• Experience with Python and scripting languages

• Experience with AI training frameworks

• Experience developing APIs and servers using Flask and FastAPI

• Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting avionics or safety-critical systems

• Experience leading technical teams or Scrum teams

• Strong system-level thinking and cross-functional collaboration skills
