Senior Stress Engineer & Stress Engineer

Description:
Job Summary:
The Senior Stress Engineer will address complex engineering challenges in the Stress discipline by developing and refining tools, methods, and guidelines through coding, analysis, and structural modeling. This role supports vehicle design/build and flight test operations, ensuring the structural integrity of metallic and composite material systems in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. The position involves close collaboration with various engineering teams and may include mentoring junior engineers and leading small project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Tool and Method Development: Create and refine tools, macros, guidelines, and departmental documents using industry-standard software and programming languages.
Analysis and Modeling: Develop standardized analysis criteria and templates, and utilize finite element models (global and discrete) to perform structural analysis.
Structural Integrity: Provide analytical definition and ensure the structural integrity of components, assemblies, and systems.
Workflow Support: Contribute to the structural design workflow release process by generating guidelines and standardizing analysis techniques and processes.
Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on technical and procedural matters.
Team Leadership: Lead small teams through projects and assignments, ensuring timely and effective completion of tasks.
Documentation: Review, update, and create engineering analytical definitions and documentation for components and assemblies.
Manufacturing Support: Support the review of manufacturing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with design and load requirements.
Must-Have Qualifications:

Airframe Experience: Extensive experience with airframe structures.
FEMAP Experience: Proficiency in FEMAP, or significant experience with PATRAN creators will be considered.
HYPER-SIZER or HYPER-X: Experience with HYPER-SIZER or HYPER-X for structural analysis and optimization.
Composite Experience: At least 5 years of solid experience in composite materials and analysis.
Total Stress Experience: Minimum of 10 years of total experience in stress analysis.
Design Experience: Experience with clean sheet design and analysis, prototype development, and new design projects.
Composite vs. Metallics: More experience with composites compared to metallic materials.
Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of material properties and behavior, statics, free body diagrams, and structural load paths.
Strong understanding of stress analysis procedures, failure modes, and theories, including static and fatigue/durability/damage tolerance calculations.
Programming Skills: Proficient in coding and macro creation using one or more programming languages (e.g., VBA, Python, C++).
FEA Expertise: Expertise in creating and interrogating FEA models, including pre and post-processing of NASTRAN models and component sizing.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Software Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MATLAB, Mathcad, and other industry-standard software.
Teamwork: Strong teamwork and coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

FEMAP Experience: Extensive experience with FEMAP is highly desirable, but highly experienced PATRAN creators will also be considered.
Advanced Coding Skills: Proficiency in Python and VBA.
Aerospace Experience: Experience with liaison/MRB activities in aerospace stress applications.
ERP Systems: Familiarity with manufacturing-based ERP systems, such as Oracle.
Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with the design of flight vehicles or systems to standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military, or NASA standards.
Extra Notes:

FEM Experience: Must have experience with GFEM (Global Finite Element Models), including full vehicle, component level, or sub-assembly modeling.
Design Focus: Candidates should have experience with clean sheet design and analysis, including prototype and new design projects.
Composite Emphasis: Preference for candidates with more experience in composites compared to metallic materials.
