Software Architect

PDS Tech Inc., is seeking a Software Architect in Warren, MI

This project will use map data and vehicle telemetry to develop a route characterization function that maximizes the safety and driving comfort of a vehicle pulling a trailer. The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering system design documentations, route selection algorithm prototype, cloud aggregation prototype, refined algorithm, and system demonstration and specifications.


  • Manage and communicate a project timing.
  • Gather technical specifications from the current navigation system provide route guidance based on traffic congestion or other types of disruptive road anomalies. In the presence of such conditions, the navigation system can provide alternative routes that improve the driving experience for drivers.
  • Design and Development of Crowd Sensing Framework
  • Investigate and select vehicle data signals that are related to trailering stress and comfort, and develop high level approach for characterizing route risk
    • Downselect relevant individual data signals and develop aggregation approach
    • Design cloud component logic to support for data collection and aggregation
    • Evaluate the data aggregation approach through simulation and prototyping
    • Prepare and distribute progress presentations and a project issues list
    • Work with the customer to develop any new concepts for crowd sensing

  • Development of Trailer Route Algorithm
    • Characterize the selected vehicle data properties in terms of accuracy, validity and reliability and apply to route characterization techniques to map road segments
    • Develop basic route selection candidates based on selected data elements and benchmarking against standard route selection techniques
    • Develop a basic set of comfort and safety metrics
    • Evaluate route selection algorithm candidates against each other in terms of comfort and navigation metrics
    • Develop a cloud data interface protocol proposal that communicates vehicle route preference based on aggregated experience data from standalone and trailering connected vehicles (e.g., as a set of waypoints) to a navigation system provider
    • Prepare and distribute progress presentations and a project issues list
    • Work with the client to develop any new concepts for route selection

  • Algorithm Refinement and Verification
    • Identify sample test routes and measure algorithm performance against test routes
    • Develop end-to-end prototype that demonstrates route selection based on static and dynamic data (laptop demonstration)
    • Tune algorithm based on observed performance and potential customer constraints
    • Develop specification requirements, best practices, and key interface definitions with client’s support.

  • Validation based on real application data samples
  • Prototype the end-to-end system that implement the crowd sensed framework for various types of real vehicle data. Develop the back office to support insight creation from connected vehicle data
  • Develop performance monitoring on the embedded system
  • Generate the guidance for application developer to utilize the data reduction framework.
  • Deliver and storage Technical Data in multiple formats.


  • MS in Computer Science or a related discipline, or BS in Computer Science or a related discipline 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with extensive knowledge of  the Software Engineer process.
  • Good understanding of Python, C++, and object-oriented design patterns.
  • An independent thinker, eager to learn and explore not clearly defined problems.
