In this role, you have the opportunity to innovate with high-end embedded technology to solve complex systems. You are a part of a dedicated hardware electrical engineering team that collaborates within hardware and across the organization. The hardware electrical engineer is a focal local lead that bridges between program/product management, system/architecture engineering, mechanical/CAD, software, and manufacturing. This position is for a seasoned professional individual contributor in the Hardware Engineering sub-family, who works independently with limited supervision.
You are responsible for:
•   The design, development and implementation of hardware products from concept to completion.
•   Design with cutting edge technology from Intel, Freescale, Microchip, Xilinx, Altera, Broadcom, TI and beyond.
•   Interacts with architecture/system engineering, program/product management, CAD & SI, ME, FW/SW, purchasing, and Manufacturing Operations.
•   Design embedded modules, backplanes, IO interface modules, and more
•   Designs using high-speed digital design interfaces including 1-to-100G Ethernet, PCIe Gen 1-to4, and DDR3/DDR4 SDRAM Memory. Other support circuitry to include DC/DC power, Clocking, JTAG, SPI, I2C, UART/RS232.
•   Planning and organizing projects within design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of new or enhanced hardware products or systems.
•   Projects may involve exploration of products and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches, origination or modification of architecture, component and process specifications and requirements.
•   Leveraging design and being consistent across implementations.
•   Support of peer design reviews and process improvements.
•   Compile and evaluate design and test data and prepare technical specifications.
•   Confer with engineering staff and consult specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
•   Create well documented, structured hardware that delivers required functionality.
•   Creatively design, develop and test/verify complex circuits, modules or systems to meet customer and market requirements.
•   May act as a mentor to other HW Engineers
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
•   Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
•   5+ years of relevant work experience
•   Participate in the development and specification of new product HW/SW platform architectures.
•   Develop detailed design specifications, test plans, and verification reports.
•   Develop schematics using Cadence DEHDL (Concept); Legacy designs leverage Mentor Graphics DXDesigner (ViewDraw).
•   Support Engineering Services CAD and Signal Integrity (SI) teams with PCB Rules and Cadence Allegro Layout.
•   Lead and participate in design reviews.
•   Develop schematics for and specify printed circuit board layouts for new designs.
•   Balance dense and high quality design with accelerated time-to-market.
•   Use of HW LAB tools: Oscilloscopes and DVMs for verification and debug.
•   Debug skills for both HW/SW that range from new development to sustaining.
Additional Desired Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Include:
•   Design with high-end video graphics circuits and subsystems.
•   Design with Military Grade Components and Operating Environments.
•   Design with Radiation Tolerant Grade Components and Operating Environments.
•   Cadence Allegro experience for CAD/SI layout and simulation.
•   Simulation tools such as HSPICE, Ansoft.
•   Requirements traceability (JAMA, DOORS).
•   Atlassian Collaboration Tools (JIRA, Confluence).
•   Commercial/Defense 3U/6U VPX (VITA46, VITA65).
•   Power Supply System Design (28V, 270V).
•   Commercial ATCA PICMG 3.0 experience.
•   Commercial Server/Blade experience.
•   Design for Reliability (DFR), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Cost (DFC).
•   Defense program development.
