Structural Analyst

Description:

Structural Analyst to support our XL-1, Lunar Lander program



The scope of the position includes:



  • Providing engineering expertise in the area of structural analysis and design for spacecraft structures
  • Working across programs, with a focus on the XL-1 lunar lander
  • Coordinating with other divisions in the company to develop a full and complete structures solution for various projects


Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Performing structural analysis to verify the design meet requirements with respect to expected loads and sufficient factors of safety
  • Provide knowledgeable input on design improvements to optimize for mass and strength 
  • Work with other subsystems to ensure subsystems are designed to withstand the expected structural environments and validated through analysis prior to manufacturing 
  • Assist in developing structural tests, conducting the tests, and reviewing test data
  • Provide technical guidance to fabricators and other technicians 


Required skills and experience



  • B.S. in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a structural or dynamic analysis
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) including pre/post processing, scripting, and solvers (ANSYS and LS-Dyna preferred)
  • Experience with structural dynamics (modal, random vibration, acoustic & shock)
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Working effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and requirements


Desired Skills & Experience:



  • Experience developing primary structure and mechanical systems for aircraft, rotorcraft, spacecraft or launch vehicles
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and correlating vibration test results
  • Familiar with multibody dynamic analysis
  • Understanding of fatigue and fracture mechanics
  • Innovative and open to helping create a Cislunar economy - passionate about space
  • Understands what is needed for high-quality spaceflight systems - and also what is not needed
  • Experience with FEA tools, particularly coupled loads, dynamics, vibration, acoustics, and transient loads including LS-Dyna, Ansys and Solidworks 
  • Experience in the life cycle of spacecraft development: design, build, and test
  • 5+ years in structures design and/or test for spacecraft 
  • Experience with startups or new space companies
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Strong work ethic and intrinsic motivation
  • Hands-on fabrication experience
  • Must be able to adapt and thrive in a dynamic highly technical environment
  • Will have a large impact on many programs, especially the lunar mission
