Electrical Designer

Description:
This is a high-level design position, often involving segments of complex equipment, mechanisms and or processes. Position requires developing cost-effective solutions to problems in assigned areas of design or development projects. Contributes to evaluations, conclusions and recommendations on projects within area of specialization. Considerable creativity and initiative are required. Must display initiative in developing new approaches to solve technological problems. Position may require occasional independent field travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Completes specialized design, detailing and checking of complex mechanisms, processes or equipment installations with minimum supervision. Also, ensures that designs conform to national and international standards as required.
  2. Responsible for the electrical design, component selection, and development of machinery and electrical systems that must work in conjunction with mechanical components and software used on machines.
  3. Responsible for development, accuracy, and maintenance of electrical drawing packages as assigned, including layouts, details, assemblies and schematics.
  4. Specifies materials, components, and manufacturing tolerances.
  5. Assists purchasing, manufacturing, assembly, and service with procurement, fabrication, assembly, debugging and start-up of specific machinery or processes. Prepares reports and estimates, and participates in design reviews as required. This may involve contact with equipment vendors, marketing personnel and the customer.  Responsible for the structuring of bills of material, including information concerning machinery assembly.

Responsible to mentor Electrical Designers and Drafter personnel, to assist with their professional development and potential career advancement.
 

OUALIFICATIONS REOUIRED

An Associate's Degree in electrical design and a minimum of six years of experience in the engineer-to-order machinery industry (i.e., converting, printing, plastics, packaging machinery manufacturing). Also required is proven experience in AutoCAD. While the position is for electrical design in nature, a basic knowledge of mechanical components and systems is required. Must also have a working knowledge of machine control programming. Must be able to work independently with little supervision and work closely with all engineering disciplines. Must be familiar with state/federal/international safety standards. Must be capable of participating in safety audits.  Is proficient in the use of AutoCAD, PDM, ERP system and SolidWorks as required.
