Propulsion Engineer

Description:
We are seeking a Propulsion System Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. You will be working as part of the Symphony Propulsion Team developing Inlet, Nacelle and or Exhaust system architecture for the Symphony Integrated PowerPlant System (IPPS). Work would be related to one or more of the following subsystems: Inlet Cowl, Auxiliary Doors and mechanisms, nacelles, thrust reversers and exhaust systems.

Responsibilities:
Create 3D layouts of IPPS components and assemblies in support of Symphony
Conduct trade studies to identify best solution for the Symphony IPPS
Define requirements and applicable design for subsystems to ensure compliance with 14CFR Part 25 regulatory certification requirements
Collaborate with other team members and suppliers throughout the design, integration, and certification activities.
Collaborate with cross functional team(s) to develop and validate interface requirements
Provide innovative solutions to technical challenges encountered
Make technical decisions with moderate supervision
Support the planning and development of wind tunnel test articles


Required Education, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor or Master’s degree in engineering with 5 or more years of experience in aerospace or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
5+ years’ experience in the design, development, aircraft integration and certification of aircraft systems
Experience with design feasibility and analysis for trade studies and down selecting solutions.
Knowledge and experience in identifying technical requirements
Knowledge of FAA Part 23/25 regulatory requirements and Advisory Circulars related to associated systems
Experience creating 3D Catia V5 or V6 models
Excellent presentation and communication skills,
The ability to interface and communicate effectively with different groups and levels of leadership internally and externally
Knowledge and experience integrating mechanical systems in aircraft or propulsion systems
Knowledge of aircraft and propulsion subsystems and components
Knowledge of structural considerations for rough sizing and layout of systems


Preferred Education, Skills and Abilities

Advanced surface lofting experience with CATIA
Design experience with 3D kinematics
Experience designing engine nacelle systems
Experience with environmental qualification per DO-160
Coordination with suppliers from development phase to hardware qualification and certification
Experience with development of supersonic aircraft technologies
Knowledge of FAA Part 33 regulatory requirements and Advisory Circulars related to associated systems
