Seeking an experienced design engineer to lead design of airframe structural components, assemblies, and integrated systems for our Mothership program. This role provides technical leadership throughout the design lifecycle from requirements to delivery. Engineers in this position are expected to have strong experience with leadership, aerospace design practices, methods, analysis and critical thinking required to develop efficient solutions to support our objectives.
Lead team of structural design engineers from requirements, trade studies, prototyping, detailed design, through production of of details, assemblies and installations.
Support operations and flight test by incorporation of improvements to ensure vehicle readiness for flight.
Review and approve design definition in accordance with industry and company standards.
Participate in the continuous improvement of design practices, procedures and technology.
Assist in management and career leadership of the Structural Design Team.
Allocate team's resources efficiently to meet the demands of internal customer requirements on time and within budget.
Develop technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
What you bring
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in Aeronautical, Astronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering.
4-8+ years of experience in Aerospace industry with a strong design emphasis.
Demonstrated experience in leadership role.
Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23, Part 25, military or NASA desired.
In-depth knowledge of structural design and fabrication associated with composites.
Experience with composite design CAD workbenches. CATIA V5 preferred.
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools (PLM software), requirements management tools and configuration management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong team player and ability to work independently with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Liaison Engineer II
Liaison engineering team members are responsible as Design Engineering's primary interface for manufacturing floor activity for Uncrewed Dream Chaser (UDC) and Cargo Module (CM) fabrication on the CRS2 program. Liaison's goal is to ensure design requirements are met between production, planning, and supply chain, while maintaining schedule. Through a detailed understanding of the build processes, engineering change processes, design requirements and extensive collaboration with the internal teams designing and managing installations, this team is a key stakeholder to ensure that the overall build of UDC and CM design achieves all objectives.
The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding, fast-paced, and evolving environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile and highly motivated team to accomplish the first of its kind in the private industry, flying spacecraft. This individual takes pride in his/her thoroughness, emphasis on follow through, interorganizational communication skills and attention to requirements conformance. The candidate will be able to problem solve from the component level to installation level addressing often first time problems and use strong logic and engineering tools to come up with solutions to problems that meet drawing and document requirements. A successful applicant will have the ability thrive in a challenging multidisciplinary build environment, collectively solving build problems that require collaboration and agreement of various organizations including but not limited to Design, Quality, and Manufacturing engineering.
Responsibilities:
Nonconformance (MRB):
Assess, disposition, analyze, justify, determine cause and relay improvements for build discrepancies, errors and other nonconformances
Provide guidance on when NC's are appropriate vs other engineering change options, enforce process standards, and provide streamlined support to quickly address and close.
Understand, prioritize, communicate and execute nonconformance against program schedule.
Engineering Change:
Develop and utilize knowledge of various engineering change options, determine and execute the appropriate change option that creates the shortest path and meets engineering requirements for each unique problem.
Document, prioritize, communicate, and track required engineering changes fed back to the spacecraft design organization for resolution.
Work closely with manufacturing, quality, planning, and procurement teams to address changes and shepherd them through fruition on the production floor.
Contribute to innovative, time saving, and cost-effective improvements to help streamline engineering change and response times.
Drawings, Processes and Technical Specifications:
Provide guidance to technicians, engineers, and quality assurance engineers related to drawing and spacecraft requirements by overseeing installations, providing interpretation, and information briefs on key topics.
Support the development and maintenance of program specific technical specifications, and follow through on execution of these specifications to drive efficiency.
Contribute to development and execution of standard repairs, analysis methods, and acceptable defects to streamline defects processing through MRB.
Monitor existing processes and nonconformance trends to develop tools and other methods to reduce manufacturing build hours and quality issues, increase production rates, and remove waste from complex processes.
Must-haves:
Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering
3+ years, with 1 year in a manufacturing environment preferred (1+year with MS)
Preferred:
Experience in design and build of primary and secondary composite structures
Experience in design and build of metallic structures and fittings
Proficient or familiar with hand calculation methods for structural analysis
Aerospace propulsion, hydraulics, mechanisms design and build experience desired
Proficiency preferred in NX CAD, but experience is another CAD package is acceptable
Familiar with typical PLM architecture
Experience with utilizing, developing, optimizing, interpreting and maintaining processes, specifications, and work instructions
Takes initiative, tenacious, and highly energetic

Position Purpose:
Under minimal supervision, independently prepare, conduct, and evaluate analyses for planning improvements and problem solving for manufacturing issues (production methods and procedures) in a specific function (including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material fabrication, assembly methods and planning) in a Production or Post-Production environment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions: Perform technical studies of a complex nature, conduct analysis of operations (existing or proposed). Prepare a report of recommendations for equipment needed and correct methods of manufacturing (including sequence of operations and detailed methodology of complex assemblies and installations as well as detail components). Author detailed work instructions that optimize manufacturing process efficiency and opportunity for zero defects with functional Operations Engineer. Author DRDI/DMT rework instructions to support effective corrective actions. Author MBOM in SAP/Solumina/Corridor (as applicable) to ensure all parts defined by Engineering are installed during the assembly/installation process. Assist in make-or-buy proposals and recommend corrective actions for areas of responsibility; evaluate vendors, attend vendor negotiations, and assist in resolving vendor problems. Conduct research, investigation, and analysis in connection with assigned planning or other assigned projects, to ensure conformance to requirements. Investigate and assist in preparing justification for equipment and facility requests. Perform productibility studies from engineering drawings to identify opportunities to enhance manufacturing ability to meet requirements. Participate in Design for Manufacturing assessments with Engineering. Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential; make necessary computer inputs and generate data or reports as needed. Perform audit of co-workers output based on defined requirements and procedures. Must demonstrate knowledge of ME policies and procedures. Incorporate Lean Manufacturing Methodology into existing and future processes. With minimal supervision, lead/coordinate the implementation of projects between multiple organizations. Position Purpose:

Ability to operate computerized equipment, such as personal computers, CADAM, CATIA, Solumina, SAP, Corridor. Must-haves:
Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra and physics

Seeking a motivated and tenacious engineer who will support Assembly Integration and Test operations of the Dream Chaser spacecraft as a representative of the spacecraft design organization.

A successful applicant will have the ability thrive in a challenging multidisciplinary build environment, collectively solving build problems that require collaboration and agreement of the Design, Quality and Manufacturing organizations.
Liaison engineer team members are responsible as the primary interface for manufacturing floor activity for Uncrewed Dream Chaser (UDC) and Cargo Module (CM) fabrication on the CRS2 program.
Liaison's goal is to ensure design requirements are met between production, planning, and supply chain, while maintaining schedule.
Responsibilities:
Nonconformance (MRB):
Assess, disposition, analyze, justify, determine cause and relay improvements for build discrepancies, errors and other nonconformances
Provide guidance on when NC's are appropriate vs other engineering change options, enforce process standards, and provide streamlined support to quickly address and close.
Understand, prioritize, communicate and execute nonconformance against program schedule.
Engineering Change:
Develop and utilize knowledge of various engineering change options, determine and execute the appropriate change option that creates the shortest path and meets engineering requirements for each unique problem.
Document, prioritize, communicate, and track required engineering changes fed back to the spacecraft design organization for resolution.
Work closely with manufacturing, quality, planning, and procurement teams to address changes and shepherd them through fruition on the production floor.
Contribute to innovative, time saving, and cost-effective improvements to help streamline engineering change and response times.
Drawings, Processes and Technical Specifications:
Provide guidance to technicians, engineers, and quality assurance engineers related to drawing and spacecraft requirements by overseeing installations; providing training, and information briefs on key topics.
Support the development and maintenance of program specific technical specifications, and follow through on execution of these specifications to drive efficiency.
Contribute to development and execution of standard repairs, analysis methods, and acceptable defects to streamline defects processing through MRB.
Monitor existing processes and nonconformance trends to develop tools and other methods to reduce manufacturing build hours and quality issues, increase production rates, and remove waste from complex processes.
Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering
Background in the aerospace industry preferred, but not required.

Position may require extended work hours, part time second shift and/or weekend work
