Engineering Technician (Shipbuilding)

Description:
***Hybrid is an option (3days in the office, 2 days home). Resource will need to be onsite 100% for training for a month.***

Summary: Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

In the Naval Architecture and Weight Engineering Department, this position would perform weight analysis on aircraft carriers including: development of weight and center of gravity estimates from technical descriptions, extraction of weight details from product models or calculation from drawings, determining appropriate margins to add to weights, and development of input packages for the weight databases. These calculations would be performed on structure, piping, electrical, outfitting, machinery, and HVAC systems. Position requires the applicant to have a competent knowledge of basic mathematics and geometry, including understanding of area, volume, moments, and reading a scale.

Successful applicants need experience in the use of product modeling (Siemens NX or similar), ability to read technical drawings, proficient in the use of Excel spreadsheets, and possess good written and verbal communication skills.

Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree.

Leads project teams to develop complex specifications, conceptual and final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the procurement or modification of equipment systems (e.g., ovens, autoclaves, furnaces, tank lines, etc.). Reviews specifications and/or designs to assess compliance with customer requirements, codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of process engineering, practices, and materials and takes appropriate corrective action. Participates on or leads cross-functional teams to integrate the activities of multiple engineering disciplines, outside consultants and government agencies.Leads teams to perform complex conceptual analysis to determine the cause of asset failures and reduction in asset capacity by using reliability tools and methods (e.g., life cycle analysis, condition based maintenance, root cause failure methodology, mean time between failures, fault tree analysis, etc.). Improves existing equipment reliability. Ensures that new equipment designs address maintainability and reliability principles. Provides technical recommendations and solutions by investigating, evaluating, interfacing with suppliers and stakeholders, troubleshooting and responding to maintenance/operator questions related to complex equipment. Assists in the development of equipment reliability policies and processes. Develops, reviews and approves bid and procurement specifications for complex equipment by teaming with cross functional subject matter experts and applying engineering methodologies for the acquisition or modification of equipment which will meet the stakeholders'' requirements. Incorporates maintainability and reliability principles into all specifications. Assists in the development of equipment specification standards. Researches technologies, processes, materials, and methodologies related to complex equipment by attending educational events, reading technical publications, reviewing emerging trends, and studying historical data in order to identify opportunities for improvement in current and future projects. Mentors and shares learning with peers. Advises stakeholders on technology developments relevant to technical and business strategies. Identifies and assists in developing strategies and tactics to address market dynamics of our suppliers and their products. Role is onsite NO remote option. Will be onsite at Auburn WA site.
Travel may only include driving between two sites, around 20-25 miles each way. Auburn to Puyallup site.
Training will begin onsite. Successfully completing training is a contingency for this assignment.

We are seeking a Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer (Level 4) to join our Facilities and Asset Management team located in Auburn, Washington.
This mechanical engineering position will provide leadership on material handling, industrial building HVAC and controls, automation and mechanical systems, reliability and building automation.
This position is based primarily in Auburn, Washington. However, up to 50% travel is required between our Fredrickson (located in Puyallup, WA) and Auburn sites.

Position Responsibilities:
Leads project teams to develop complex conceptual designs, final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the architectural, civil/structural, mechanical, and electrical phases of buildings, equipment installations, utility systems and grounds. Reviews engineering designs to assess compliance with customer requirements, building codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of construction principles, practices, and materials, and takes appropriate corrective action.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

5+ years of experience reading & understanding engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications
3+ years of experience leading engineering teams
3+ years of experience using AutoCAD (or similar CAD package)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role
5+ years of experience applying Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), or other similar rigorous problem/analysis/resolution, processes to engineering development and manufacturing/production efforts
5+ years of experience assisting with reliability processes in engineering
5+ years of experience in reliability and maintenance methodologies and tools
5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining high pressure steam boilers and air compressors
5+ years of experience working with industrial building HVAC and controls, chilled water, compressed air, process piping, vacuum piping, plumbing, fire protection, and steam & condensate systems
5+ years of experience with applicable codes e.g. NFPA, IBC, UPC, WSEC, and ASME
Experience with electrical, mechanical, and/or structural engineering systems
Remote, onsite or a combination of both? Combination, onsite 2 days week requirement. Eventually more time onsite a week could be required.

Spaceship Propulsion Operations Engineer

Your Mission

Seeking an engineer with hands-on experience and a strong background in rocket propulsion systems, preferably with hybrid or liquid propulsion or with high pressure fluids and composite overwrapped pressure vessels experience. Ideally the engineer will have a background in design, manufacturing, integration, testing and/or flight operations. This role requires critical thinking across hardware integration and product lifecycles. Experience with typical rocket propellants (LOX, Hypergols, Hydrogen, solids, etc.) is a strong plus. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at Virgin Galactic's aerospace facility in Las Cruces, NM.

    Leading, coordinating, and executing operational procedures for propellant/pressurized gases loading Providing real-time systems control room monitoring during space flights to monitor system performance and recommend corrective actions as required Maintaining and operating Ground Support Equipment for flight operations Being a systems expert for on-ship maintenance, pre-flight, and post-flight activities Designing and executing Ground Support Equipment upgrades for increased reliability, improved efficiency, and higher flight cadence operations Resolving and dispositioning rocket motor system issues and implementing future improvements Reviewing operational data to identify areas for further development, testing, analyses, and improvement to ensure the system meets and exceeds all requirements for performance, safety, and reliability Recommending concepts for component or system redesign based on operational experience, reliability, and maintainability Authoring, reviewing, and approving technical publications (maintenance manuals, operating procedures, work instructions, dispositions, piping and instrumentation diagrams) Performing post flight data analysis, including continued development of system health monitoring and reliability data
What you bring

Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, with 5+ years relevant industry experience Liquid or hybrid rocket propulsion operations and testing experience Aerospace high pressure fluids operations/testing and analysis or design experience Ability to make critical split-second decisions in high stress situations Excellent teamwork, organizational, communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Experience

    Experience with real-time monitoring of critical systems Experience with propulsion Ground Support Equipment Experience with SOLIDWORKS Experience with data analysis software such as MatLab Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA Experience with fault tree analysis and multidisciplinary trade studies Experience developing requirements and executing verification plans

Physical and/or Additional Requirements

    Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed Must be able to stand for extended periods 9 hours minimum Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted)
