Design Checker

Description:
Examine engineering drawings for compliance to established standards and practices. Review Engineering documentation in order to detect design and drafting errors of all mechanical drawings prior to fabrication. Assist in determining practicality of design, material selection, available tooling, and fabrication process applying knowledge of drafting and manufacturing methods with regard to dimensions, bend allowances, and tolerances for accuracy. Confer with design engineering personnel to resolve drawing, design and fabrication discrepancies.

Create computer aided design (CAD) models of parts, assemblies and generate drawings of electromechanical components and assembly packages. Generate wiring diagrams, interconnect diagrams, drawing trees, and perform complex detail designs. Develop Bill of Materials (BOM), implements Engineering Change Orders (ECO).


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Individual must be specialized in checking specific types of designs, for mechanical and electromechanical assemblies
Insure that drawings are to AMSE and Military standards as well in internal ACMS requirements
Perform drawing package dimensional verification check and support tolerance studies and tolerance allocation
Incorporates Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerance techniques to insure proper fit and function of components
Work with Engineers and other Designer Drafters in the design of Electronic Packages
When required, perform complex design of parts and assemblies to be used in mechanical packages and prepare detailed drawings and documentation in support of specific designs and program tasks
Participate in the Document Control process to control the release of drawings and procedures, including the generation of initial drawing releases, Engineering Change Orders (ECO), and change incorporation
Participate in designs review activities
Establish and maintain processes and procedures for the design engineering group in compliance with ISO 9001:2000
Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours
Other duties as assigned

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent CAD tools
Thorough understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerance
Extensive knowledge in engineering principals and their application to electronic packaging
Experienced with MS Office software
Knowledge of various manufacturing processes and capabilities
Familiar with developing process flow charts
Communication proficiency between interrelated departments and functions
Documentation Control database systems and MRP experience
Experience with ISO 9000
Minimum Fundamental Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities as stated in the SNC’s Responsibility Matrix.

Note: Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance maybe required.

BS in Mechanical Engineering with 1-2 years minimum experience or some combination of education /experience

Essential Functions:
Hands on evaluation of assemblies, parts and drawings to ensure compliance with CAD program and CM standards.
Ensure data quality and consistency flow between part, next higher assembly and drawing.
Ensure that parts and assemblies are modelled efficiently by troubleshooting and enforcing fixes for rebuild errors and minimum load times
Provide direct feedback to engineers to help train them in the CAD program standard
Liason from Designer to Configuration Management (CM)

Requirements:
SolidWorks 2011 and Up Experience: 1+ year of extensive use in large assemblies and complex parts.
CAD Design Experience: 3+ years
Familiarity with NX and TeamCenter Enterprise PDM interface requirements for parts, assemblies and drawings
ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.41 and ASME Y14.100 Compliance
GD&T Drawing Checking Experience
