Product Development Engineer III - Avionics (AP)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Avionics Engineer specifies, develops, integrates, validates and certifies aircraft avionics components and systems. The Engineer is primary support for audio and visual display of flight and tactical data.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
• Define system and high level requirements related to the functionality of LRU’s that form the basis for an avionics system.
• Create systems level box diagrams to illustrate avionics architecture.
• Create robust test procedures to validate the appropriate functionality of newly integrated LRU’s and avionics components.
• Establish and maintain simulated avionics environments and perform tests and analyses of prototype software.
• Facilitate the feedback loop with software development team communicating necessary improvements or changes in functionality as necessary to align final product with CLIENTS expectations.
• Maintain close coordination with avionics group at CLIENTS locations to ensure that all processes are being followed and any new development is not divergent from the intentions of CLIENTS.
• Guarantee the correct interface between interiors installation and electrical, manufacture and assembly processes.
Minimal guidance is provided from senior staff.
• Integrate avionics components or systems based on market, product and certification requirements in order to guarantee adherence to quality as well as the overall program cost and schedule goals.
• Manage supplier development to assure all requirements are achieved.
• Elaborate test proposals to validate and verify components and systems to meet the requirements and specifications.
• Write certification reports in order to show compliance with regulatory agencies’ requirements.
• If absent, create processes and procedures to define the most efficient, safe and regulatory compliant means of executing the engineering task.
• Execution of avionics related programs ensuring adherence to quality as well as the overall program cost and schedule goals.
• Ensure project related engineering data is in compliance with corporate policies and certification requirements.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field or equivalent work experience
Experience:
• Prior aviation background is required.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in an aviation avionics related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Customer focused with good relationship building skills.
• Detail oriented and focused individual able to work effectively both autonomously or as a team member when required.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of commercial aircraft and the commercial aviation market with particular emphasis on avionics systems, design, installation and certification.
• Computer literacy including: proficiency with word processing tools, requirement capture tools, software configuration tools.Comprehension and understanding of practices associated within the field of work assigned.
• High level of familiarity with software certification process DO-178C and means of showing compliance.
• Knowledge of various testing methods.
• Knowledge of Human Factors concepts during product development to reduce crew workload during the performance of tasks.
• Understand critical and non-critical avionics components and use redundant communications paths when necessary to mitigate effects of failure modes.
• Knowledge of techniques for signal separation (digital and analogue) and ability to provide recommendations for avoiding corruption or susceptibility to signal interference of either.
• Typically provides guidance on task completion to more Junior Team Members and may also review and check their work assignments.
• 2D Drafting skills required and 3D Drafting skills preferred. Training will be provided if required.
• Portuguese or Spanish language skills a plus.

• Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
• Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
• Availability for domestic and international travel
