STS AeroStaff Services is currently hiring Mechanical Engineers I for open positions in Anaheim, California.

Job Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Mechanical Engineer I interprets specifications and other requirements, performs complex analysis, design, plans, estimates tasks, directs the execution of detail design and ensures appropriate documentation on projects. The Mechanical Engineer I evaluates and integrates cost effective design, producibility, and manufacturing practices into mechanical designs. Works directly with all engineering supporting disciplines to establish product concepts and carries ideas through final product design. Coordinates and reviews the work of designers and drafters assigned to the program. Complexity of assignments requires the exercise of considerable initiative, planning, and independent judgment.

Job Duties:

• Reviews and interprets specifications and requirements to determine structural, thermal and critical safety characteristics/considerations for mechanical designs.
• Supports other mechanical engineers and drafters in conceptual designs and the preparation of mechanical drawings.
• Reviews and approves project documentation, change requests, etc.
• Performs conceptual designs to meet project objectives, cost, and schedule.
• Will be responsible for all phases of designs from concept through prototype manufacture and production.
• Performs feasibility studies to reconcile project requirements with proposed designs.
• Estimates material and labor costs for proposed designs and proposals.
• Designs cooling systems for new and updated products.
• Prepares and is responsible for project budget/schedule adherence.
• Performs packaging and mechanical design of power conversion equipment.
• Assists in cost estimates and interfaces with suppliers of components/sub-systems.
• Conducts thermal, structural and tolerance analysis.
• Strong knowledge of material and hardware selection including welding, fabrication practices, and machining tolerances to complete a cost-effective design.
• Interfaces with customers, vendors, and production to develop product requirements and solutions.
• Supports the manufacturing build and qualification testing requirements as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining Computer Aided Engineering/Design skills in support of the mechanical engineering and design functions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (BSME) from four-year college or university; and minimum 8 years related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of military and commercial standards pertaining to design, testing, hardware, material, and processes a must.
• Knowledge of Navy/Military environmental qualification testing.
• Knowledge of Mil-Specifications and contracting.
• Skilled in finite element analysis.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience using 3-D CAD software tools in design function.
• Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent modeling software (solid modeler) experience a must.
• Able to obtain DOD security clearance.
• Electronics packaging experience and familiarity with Military specifications.
• 3D CAD fluency is also a must along with experience with complex systems.
• Rigid flex/bus plane design and/or system level design is a plus.
• Electronics Packaging experience is a plus.
• Vault experience or similar and how recently they’ve used it is a plus.
• LM experience (preferred, but not mandatory).
• Able to read basic schematics (preferred, but not mandatory).
• Tolerance Analysis experience is a plus.

Requirements:

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
