Description:
Packaging Design Engineer - Level 4

Selected candidate will work with Lead Packaging Engineer to provide packaging requirements, specifications, and concepts for ongoing and future programs. The selected candidate will evaluate technical feasibility between product lines, and type of packaging required, with an emphasis on innovation, functionality, and sustainability. And where required, provide estimates of costs and potential suppliers for functional packaging, and interact closely with both product teams, and packaging suppliers for a best fit packaging solution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

(40%) Designs and develops packaging, handling, and transportation concepts for various programs with an emphasis on the materials and structural characteristics of the finished packaging product, with a keen ability to handle multiple projects and work under pressure to meet deadlines and project objectives

(30%) Ensures functional compatibility with packaging equipment and overall efficient manufacturing operations.

(20%) Provides packaging technical input and assistance internally and externally to product teams, Quality Assurance, Structures, and can network effectively with vendors, enterprise communities to transfer knowledge and apply external ideas to packaging capabilities.

(10%) Maintains an up to date knowledge of all relevant Packaging Safety and Compliance requirements, as well as industry trends and developments for the packaging of military items.

Skills:
5+ years packaging experience is a plus
Familiar with ASTM standards for packaging, and shipping boxes is a plus.
Familiar with MIL-HDBK-304, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-2073 is a plus.
Strong communication skills.
Excels in a collaborative team environment and is able to lead cross-functional teams, also work in cross-functional teams.
Understanding of ISTA guidelines with an emphasis in reducing product damage and improving environmental performance.
Networking & Information gathering skills

Education: B.S. Degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education/experience
