CAD Designer (Aerostructures)

Description:

The ideal candidate for this position will perform the following tasks:
* Create 3D CAD model of all parts and assemblies, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
* Work from actual aircraft dimensions, existing 2D drawings, sketches, scanned images, customer drawings, or specifications, to create 3D CAD models and drawings
* Create and revise production drawings (detail, assembly, and installation drawings).
* Utilize knowledge of standard engineering practices, mathematics, materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
* Work with CAD system creating, modifying and releasing, models, drawings and word documents under direct supervision of a supervisor for use by other departments and customers.
* Investigates design factors relative to ease of manufacturing, interchangeability, efficiency, cost and ease of procurement.
* Develop finished designs from sketches and layouts.
* Maintains an organized file system for parts, assemblies, engineering orders, and drawings prior to release.
* Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information.
* Contacts vendors to obtain necessary data and samples.
* Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy, compliance to standards, fits and stack-ups.
* Use the ANSI Y14.5 or equivalent drawing standards as guidelines.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university, college or technical school with a minimum of 5 years of aircraft design experience; or at least 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 3 years minimum Experience in CATIA version 5.
* Excellent knowledge of modeling and drawing practices used in the aviation industry.
* Capable of modeling complex components and producing production drawings.
* Good knowledge of GD&T.
* A good working knowledge of materials typically used in aerospace manufacturing.
* Overtime may be required on occasion

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
* Past Material Review Board (MRB) authority and experience is an additional plus.
* Some knowledge of lean manufacturing and advanced manufacturing techniques is a plus.
* CNC programming is a plus. Special training and skills should be noted on application by applicant.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills and characteristics:
* Normal physical exertion required for periods of working on foot or standing.
* Requires kneeling on occasion in performance of duties.
* Requires ability to twist, bend, squat, climb and/or other body movements to successfully accomplish the requirements of the position.
* Requires the use of either or both hands for grasping items.
* Manual dexterity and the ability to push/pull, i.e.: open/close file cabinets and/or handle machinery is required.
* Requires the ability to reach above shoulder height in accomplishing job tasks.
* Requires the ability to walk on uneven surfaces.
* Sufficient vision required to successfully accomplish the requirements of the position.
* Requires sustained periods of concentration.
