Senior Design Checker Engineer

Description:
Seeking a PCB and CCA Quality Check Engineer to support multiple programs. The ideal candidate will perform quality checks on circuit board layouts using CAD software to verify that the design meets certain performance and producibility requirements.

The primary responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:
• Works independently and as part of a team to achieve the assigned objectives.
• Use Mentor Valor NPI software to analyze printed circuit designs and generate reports.
• Ability to interpret and have a working understanding of Electronic Engineering drawings
• Check and generate assembly drawings and fab/drill drawings with a very high degree of accuracy.
• Demonstrates a very high level of accuracy in all work performed.
• Effectively communicate PCB design improvement recommendations to the Design Layout team and Engineering.
• Provides input and feedback to engineering and other functional teams in support towards the success of the projects.
• Work with external customers, Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve any design or interpretation issues.
• Updates the Engineering Design Rules & Standards documents and checklists to capture lessons-learned and changes brought about through external specifications, industry standards and customer driven requirements.
• Provides technical leadership and knowledge in the application and support of PCB design software, design guides and rules.

Required Skills:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with analysis/checking responsibilities in the Electronics Assembly and Fabrication industry.
• Must be familiar with applicable industry (IPC) design and end product performance standards for circuit card assemblies and printed wiring boards including IPC-6012, IPC-2221, J-STD-001, IPC-7351
• Proficient in viewing ODB++/Gerbers data, PCB assembly and fabrication drawings, and Knowledge of Electronic Components and concepts.
• Proficient in Engineering Drafting principles defined in ASME specifications
• Good mathematics aptitude and very detailed oriented.
• Must have Excellent Computers skills: - EXCEL, WORD, OUTLOOK & other office suites.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding of Printed Circuit Board fabrication: material selection, stack up, HDI and/or processes
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge and document descriptions of technical solutions for CCA and PWB technology products.
• Ability to work in multiple discipline integrated product development team environments to successfully execute tasks and deliver high quality work products.

The position requires multi-tasking to support several programs concurrently and will require local travel between sites and also some remote travel as required.

Must be a US Citizen and have ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

• Must have a professional demeanor and strong interest in providing excellent customer service.
• Ability to learn new skills and tasks as required, especially using software applications for PCB & Assembly industry, such as Valor NPI, Mentor Expedition, BluePrint (Downstream Technologies).
• Excellent customers service skills with a sense of urgency.
• Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
• Ability to perform at the highest level in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience laying out printed circuit boards using Expedition CAD software.
• Familiarity with design tools for printed wiring board and circuit card assembly technologies (Mentor xDM, Mentor Expedition, Blueprint, VALOR NPI, etc.)
• Familiarity with PWB/CCA technology Manufacturing Design Rules and Guidelines (MDRGs)
• Prior experience designing, and / or supporting aerospace/defense related products
• Expertise in component selection for military and aerospace environments
• IPC CID or CID+ certification
• Existing Security Clearance

Required Education:
• 8 years with Associates Degree or other advanced degree in a related field

Desired Education:
• 6 years of industry experience as a Checker with Bachelors’ Degree or advanced degree in a related field
