MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Description:
Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design. Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system, component and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups. Performs and documents analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Contributes to supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals. Supports system components'' designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detail documentation. Trains others. Works under general direction.

seeking a mechanical engineer to join our engineering team at the Starfire Optical Range (SOR) at Kirtland
Airforce Base (KAFB), New Mexico.

This person will supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design. Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system, component and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups. Performs and documents analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Contributes to supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals. Supports system components'' designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detail documentation. Trains others. Works under general direction.

Skills:
- Experience with structural analysis of large moving structures.
- Experience with Finite element analysis tools for predicting thermo-mechanical stability, like Ansys/FEMAP.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD design packages, like Solidworks/Inventor and Autocad.
- Experience in thermal management and fluid dynamics of cooled cameras and vacuum chambers is highly desired.
- Experience with opto-mechanical design of optical systems and optical component assemblies is highly desired.
- Experience with the mechanical tolerance of optical systems (mechanical, optical, thermal) is highly desired.
- Familiarity with Zemax and basic optical design is highly desired
- Applicants must have good communication, analytical, and organizational skills and be able to work in a team
environment.
