Our client is an aerospace flight test, engineering and certification organization that provides development services to aircraft modifiers and OEM�s. This position will be in the Test and Evaluation Support unit, which has four areas of expertise: Test Planning, Instrumentation, Ground Operations and Flight Operations.
The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for supporting the operational and technical success of the instrumentation group. This person works closely with all other Instrumentation Engineers, Technicians, other T&E Support Staff to meet instrumentation requirements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
� Provide instrumentation services: to include:
o production of instrumentation specifications, sensor selection, wire diagrams, installation diagrams (FTEO packages), sensor and system calibration, signal conditioning, derived parameters, cockpit displays, data validation, data tracking, data recording, documentation and conformity.
o Ensuring that the instrumentation systems and deliverables meet quality standards as well as all customer specifications to include accuracy, resolution, and frequency range, and function correctly within harsh operating conditions typical of aircraft.
o Provide instrumentation equipment management to ensure that equipment is maintained, calibrated and available for re-use to minimize waste.
� Provide instrumentation technical input: advise the organization in regards to technical information for the best technical selection of sensors and support equipment at affordable costs. Works closely with Product Development Unit when new equipment and systems are required or for the design of Flight Test safety equipment, or any complex mechanical installations that require stress approval.
� Support Program Teams: Works with OEM & STC program and project managers with technical resources requirements. Fully supports the test planners in regards to their instrumentation needs.
� Intermediate knowledge skills and competency of Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) and data equipment for the purpose of recording and monitoring parameters fitted to experimental aircraft including associated of industry processes and practices to include:
o Electrical and avionics design,
o Data Systems Design Principles
o Air data booms (straight nose and swivel-head)
o Static trailing cones
o Sensitive aircraft instruments
o Cockpit displays
o End-user interface
o Portable test equipment such as hand-held stick force gauges
o High-end GPS receivers and antennas for precise aircraft positioning
o Position transducers - sting potentiometers, rotary potentiometers, LVDTs, RVDTs
o Pressure transducers
o Temperature sensors - thermocouple wire/probes/assemblies, RTD probes, thermistors, glass bulb thermometers
o Strain gauges, load cells, force transducers, torque sensors
o Portable weather stations - wind speed/direction, outside air temperature, relative humidity
o Video recording equipment
o Signal conditioners
o Data acquisition systems and data loggers
� Intermediate knowledge of flight test operations and flight certification.
Level Requirements (Minimum):
� Formal Instrumentation Training (Military or Civilian) � Preferred
� BS in Engineering or equivalent experience
� 5+ years relevant technical experience
� Intermediate understanding of flight and ground test planning and test conduct, and test data analysis.
