Mechanical Engineer

PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer  for an open position in Troy, OH.
  • Responsible for planning, export compliance, coordination and execution of tasks related to transfer of manufacturing special processes (paint, chemical processing, shotpeen, stress roll) and part performance compliance to Engineering Test and Validation Plans. 
  •  Assist in the develop, test, validate and implement (on 1 manufacturing line) a robust manufacturing tool and special processing for deep roller burnishing (stress roll) of aircraft wheels that replaces current in-house designs prone to excessive maintenance and down-time.
  • Key tasks include conducting Passport reviews, working with key technology suppliers (Germany) for tooling and process, screening supplier proposals via Hertzian stress modeling techniques, coordinating/conducting external and internal sub-scale testing (X-ray Diffraction, Bending Fatigue) to show equivalence to current process, full-scale part performance compliance to Engineering Test and Validation Plans, mistake-proofing and compliance to Quality/EHS requirements. 
  • Support in the management of large-scale, cross-functional teams, Make-to-Make Work Transfer Passport processes and international export compliance.
  • Gain knowledge of special processes, particularly those that positively or negatively impact fatigue performance of aircraft wheel structure (anodize, sealants, shotpeen and deep roller burnishing). Gain awareness of additive manufacturing techniques/materials and potential applications within manufacturing.

  • Mechanical Engineering or Technology processing experience.
  • Strong project management, organization, communication and export compliance skills required. Interaction with Engineering and Quality functional groups. CAD (i.e. CATIA UG/NX) experience, background in metal cutting environment.
  • Applicant should be action-oriented to keep cross-functional teams on schedule (teams include Operations/Quality/Planning/Export Compliance/Work Transfer Compliance/Supply Chain/Engineering/MPT).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and special processes.
  • A plus would be analytical or finite element Hertzian stress analyses, high-cycle fatigue, material property testing, component performance testing, solid modeling and Additive Manufacturing. Microsoft office and MRP software knowledge. 
  • Applicant would gain knowledge in Landing Systems processes and products, manufacturing technologies, project management, Work Transfers/Passport processes, manufacturing NADCAP special processes, export compliance and Engineering (and M&PT) Test and Validation planning. 
  • A more technical applicant would further increase knowledge of fatigue-enhancing surface treatment special processes (shotpeen, deep roller burnishing, residual stresses (X-Ray Diffraction testing), fatigue testing, ultrasonic needle peening…cavitation shot-less peening, etc), steel heat treat, engineering polymers (nylon, urethane, PEEK, ULTEM) and Additive Manufacturing.
