Staff Electrical Engineer

PDS Tech is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer. in Phoenix, AZ.


  • Will work with a global team of engineers in Phoenix and India, on electronic control units for aerospace applications.
  • Will be the technical focus for all activities allocated to the Electrical functional group as related to the development and production of electronic products. This includes: requirements management, hardware design, automatic test equipment, product qualification, certification and manufacturing & producibility support.
  • Wll be responsible for the execution of the design and implementation of aerospace control system features, such as built in test and diagnostics, to meet performance requirements as well as design-to-cost and producibility requirements.
  • The ideal candidate will also coordinate engineering Problem Reports, change activities, provide an Engineering interface to the Customer and Program Management and support the development of program budgets and schedules that ensure objectives are met on time and within budget.
    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with strong communication and team building skills.
  • As a Staff Electrical Engineer, this role will lead and mentor other electrical engineers throughout the entire design life cycle and support project planning efforts and ensure execution to schedule and budget.
  • As such, the successful candidate shall be able to articulate leadership capabilities in a team based environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Primary ownership of Systems Development Processes.
  • Support the development and review of Systems / Hardware requirements decomposed from customer specifications.
  • Coordinate with Systems and Hardware teams to understand the cross functional requirements and constraints.
  • Assess design maturity and review technical risk.
  • Participate in Component Design reviews.
  • Utilize appropriate Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions with heavy focus on platform design, reuse, and knowledge-management
  • Support project planning efforts and ensure execution to schedule and budget.
  • Design responsibilities include architecture, development and analysis of RF, wireless and high-speed communication links.
  • Create documentation including hardware design plans, technical requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, qualification test plans and reports.
  • Evaluate and approve electronic components to meet requirements for availability, performance and cost.
  • Support project planning efforts and ensure execution to schedule and budget. 
  • Interface and support validation, verification and manufacturing engineers and technicians with product and manufacturing testing.
  • Apply knowledge of DOE, FMEA, tolerance analysis, simulation and statistical methods to improve robustness and quality of electronic designs.

Basic Qualifications:

It is desirable that the candidate has experience with the activities listed below for Highly Complex COTS components operating in the GHz bus frequency range.
     a. Digest vendor SOC documentation (data sheets, user manuals, app notes, errata, …) to develop constraints and requirements for H/W implementation.
     b. Effectively work with the software team to develop configuration register settings.
     c. Perform shared resource analysis.
     d. Perform configuration settings and failure analysis.
     e. Knowledge of accommodation/mitigation techniques for undocumented features, vendor micro code, configuration fault anomalies.
     f. Perform programmable logic requirements definition.
     g. Knowledge on component selection and trade studies.
     h. Capable of programming code on development boards for design and initial board functional checkout.
     i. Perform power sequencing analysis.
     j. Experience with the civil certification of complex electronic hardware.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with high reliability controller electronics and power switching circuitry.
  • Strong experience in hardware and firmware developed in accordance with the requirements of DO-254 (DAL A).
  • Familiarity with software developed in accordance with the requirements of DO-178B or DO-178C Level A.
