Autonomous Technician


PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking for an Autonomous Technician in Portland, OR.

Our client Product Validation Engineering (PVE) department is responsible for all component and system level validation work to assure our products are industry leaders in reliability as well as supporting lowest Total Cost of Ownership objectives for our customers. PVE's Vehicle Performance Group is responsible for development and validation in the areas of Thermodynamics, Data Acquisition & Processing, Fuel Economy, Steering, Braking, Handling, NVH, and vehicle systems performance integration. The Vehicle Performance shop technicians act in support of the test engineers within the Vehicle Performance group by installing prototype parts, instrumenting test vehicles, fixture and tool manufacture to support testing and the performing of tests. The autonomous contract technician position would act in support of Autonomous vehicle testing in all of these areas. We are looking for a technician with a positive attitude, good work ethic and who is capable of working independently but also as part of a team. This person must also be a driven self-starter who can coordinate and lead shop activities from initial planning phase through completion.


  • Support test engineers with set-up & testing of Autonomous Dynamics test vehicles
  • Work with design and PVE to update vehicles, install test parts, validate new designs
  • Build wiring harnesses and perform wiring updates in support of Autonomous vehicle testing
  • Fabricate test fixtures and tools needed to perform validation testing
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment are safe, as they are used in high g test maneuvers.

  • Detail oriented, critical thinker who can identify and document issues with parts and designs
  • Strong computer skills - proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and schematics, both mechanical and electrical
  • Ability to work independently or as a team to support our client strategic direction
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic work environments
  • Experience with Detroit powertrain components and electronics
  • Extensive experience in automotive electrical systems
  • Experience with Detroit engine electrical and control systems
  • Experience with Detroit diagnostic link software
  • Experience operating forklifts and scissor lifts
  • Clean driving record and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles
  • *Class-A Commercial Driver’s License *

Must Have

  • Heavy diesel truck repair, service and diagnostics experience
  • Extensive experience in automotive and diesel electrical systems
  • Fabrication experience – Welding, Cutting, Forming and Machining of steel and aluminum

Nice to have

  • Ability to drive vehicle and assess whether it is operating normally and as expected
