Thermal Engineer/Analyst, VTOL Aircraft Systems

Aircraft Systems Thermal/Heat Transfer Analyst opportunities are available on multiple aircraft engineering programs.  The Thermal Analyst is responsible for evaluating and designing the aircraft heat rejection system and component performance required to meet program and customer defined requirements.



Position Responsibilities:

The Thermal Analysis Engineer is responsible for evaluating the thermal properties and cooling performance of multiple air vehicle systems, including hydraulics, engine, avionics, electrical (including battery), and drive systems, as required to meet program and customer defined requirements.

Specific position responsibilities:

Perform thermal analyses of A/C systems to evaluate cooling requirements.
Perform sub-system component and air vehicle level thermal analyses to meet systems level requirements.
Provide technical guidance to design engineers and program management in support of decisions affecting thermal analyses.
Work closely with IPTs by reviewing evolving designs and providing input into their decisions, to support overall air vehicle level performance.
Perform system level and aircraft level analysis to validate performance requirements.
Plan and conduct thermal survey testing, both component and aircraft-level



Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree is Mechanical or Aerospace is required.  BS in Electrical or Physics will be considered.

Master’s Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above is preferred.



Position Requirements:

8+ years’ experience in analyzing thermal performance of aircraft systems, including hydraulics, engine bay cooling, oil cooling, inlet/exhaust sizing, and heat exchanger sizing and specification.
Experience performing thermal analysis using 1-D SINDA-G or AMESim network models, 3-D Fluent CFD conjugate heat transfer models, or equivalent.
Experienced with management and technical oversight of a component supplier.
Must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to coordinate and lead activities, prioritize tasks, and report status.
Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external suppliers, as well as horizontal integrations across the other teams.
Familiarity with aerospace design and verification processes to include; requirements development and verification, preliminary and detailed design, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Maintenance processes is preferred.
PC proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
Must have the ability to work effectively within a team.
Good interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
