Engineering Estimator / Scheduler

Description:
SUMMARY
Perform timely and accurate forecasting cost for future engineering projects under general direction and in accordance with established company policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
•Work as a liaison estimator / scheduler between BCC and Engineering. While the position falls within the BCC, most direction will be taken from Engineering management.
•Receive and process bid requests from Sales/Estimating/Scheduling on future projects, ROMs, and change orders.
•Process cost estimating by breaking the project down into functions by engineering groups (Structures, stress, electrical, etc…) and phases (design, check, approval, liaison, etc…).
•Create/maintain a library of bid vs actual data. Analyzing over/under bid projects in order to have a more accurate database for future bids. Responsible for feeding the data back to the BCC to increase quote accuracy and speed.
•Develop and implement tools specific to engineering financial performance to help monitor and improve quality, schedule and budget.
•Calls meetings for large tasks that will require a significant coordination of data between engineering departments.
•Must be knowledgeable of engineering resources in order to estimate schedule impact. Coordination with Sales/Design on complex projects.
•Ensure that engineering resources are assigned to tasks in a way that supports A/C schedules set by the BCC. Maintain engineering schedule in order to assign company schedule impact.
•Participates in in-process data collection and team problem solving. Understands and has applied basic Continuous Improvement tools/principles – 5S, Data-Driven Decision Making, 8 Wastes, Know Your Customer, and Communication Boards.
•Performs additional job duties as assigned.
•This position does not have supervisor responsibilities.

Frequent internal company and external contacts. Represents organization on specific projects.

COMPETENCIES
Ability to communicate details and expectations of bids to the engineering group. Demonstrate attention to detail, good communication skills, and personal organization. Ability to proactively research , analyze and interpret complex Engineering source data, read and interpret drawings and engineering specifications; also extract and comprehend typical engineering data (bill of materials, schematics, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS
College degree or equivalent experience and knowledge in project costing. Should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an in-depth knowledge of effective cost accounting and high computer proficiency. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and able to meet deadlines with little supervision. Must be proficient in Excel. Experience in a target driven environment with the ability to set and exceed goals and improve business performance. Proficient in Excel, Word, Project, Outlook. Must be knowledgeable with engineering process as well as upfront and downstream requirements. Understand issues and proactively find solutions.
