Project Group Design Engineer (Airframe Design Group)

PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Project Group Design Engineer in Wichita, KS

Candidates will assist with developing, planning, organizing and conducting complex design assignments on Aviation aircraft.
The candidate will perform duties as either an airframe design engineer or a systems design engineer. Airframe design engineers will take responsibility for planning, optimizing, and executing complex aircraft structural design assignments.
This will include the support of new product and sustaining designs and require coordination with multiple technical stakeholders.Initiate designs or incorporate design improvements utilizing CATIA software with an emphasis on modeling and drafting, 3D model development in support of detail, assembly and installation layouts. Communicate and coordinate with technical disciplines, such as Manufacturing, Tooling, Structural Integrity, Aerosciences and Utility Systems.  Peer drawing checking and the release of engineering documents, as well as day-to-day collaboration to resolve design conflicts and interferences. Support of Space Reviews (i.e. CATIA V6 Model Management/Interference Checks).  Support prototype aircraft assembly, which includes coordination with Experimental Engineering to support design interpretation and occasionally investigate and respond to problems in manufacturability. Build prototypes of systems components for testing; set up and run laboratory simulations.
Assist in the creation of test procedures and coordination of testing. Create presentations to convey test results, design issues, or trade study recommendations. Support the investigation and response to customer field service issues

• Complete either new design or modification of existing design of primary and secondary structure and control surfaces (layouts, detail parts, assemblies, installation drawings) (Airframe Group)
• Design and development of various mechanical systems and installation ranging from Environmental Control Systems, Flight Controls, and Hydraulics (Systems Group)
• Responsible for provisioning for and integration of aircraft subsystems such as Mechanical Systems, Propulsion System, Electrical/Avionics Systems, and Interiors (Airframe Group)
• Performs activities as required to accomplish objectives as established in the areas such as systems development, systems enhancements, system modeling and integration. (Systems Group)
• Conduct trade studies and make recommendations to determine feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing equipment
• Responsible for researching pertinent data and developing solutions for the project or assignment
• Coordinate with other engineering, manufacturing or specialty personnel to resolve problems
• Specific tasks include developing new design solutions for simple to moderate complexity problems based on requirements; supporting the development of product changes and improvements; responding to data/action requests from procurement, manufacturing, tooling, etc.; preparation of engineering change requests and change orders; engineering drawings
• Provide Manufacturing Engineering support during fabrication and assembly of components
• Design activity includes airframe structure and system provisions (Airframe Group) and systems components (Systems Group)
• Participate on technical teams, including execution to cost and schedule requirements
• Support supplier activity
• Support test, validation, qualification, and certification activity, including test plan development, execution, and reports

Additional Information:
• B.S. or advanced degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree required
• Minimum 7 years of experience in General Aviation or Business Aircraft development programs

• Working knowledge of generic CAD design tool processes. Experience in CATIA V5/V6, VPM/Enovia is preferred
• Ability to read and produce drawings using standard industry practices
• Abilty to author and review technical documents and reports
• Design knowledge/experience in the fields of airframe design and/or systems design and integration (Flight controls, ECS, Hydraulics)
• Skills in Microsoft Office suite software
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of FAA processes, procedures, and regulations preferred
