Advanced Engineering Technician

Advanced Engineering Technician

Responsibilities:
• The Environmental Test Technician will primarily perform testing of highly complex, highly-reliable ground electronics, aircraft electronics and spaceflight payload electronics using shock and vibration test systems, temperature chambers, humidity testing systems, rain testing systems, altitude chambers and thermal vacuum chambers. Tasks include developing and preparing results and an understanding of test specifications.
• General maintenance and repair (mechanical & electrical) of major test equipment, including annual preventive maintenance and periodic repairs due to equipment failure.
• 2nd &/or 3rd shift coverage will be required for most assignments.

Qualifications:
• Required – active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
• Knowledge of shock and vibration test systems, temperature chambers, humidity testing, rain testing, altitude chambers.
• Able to interpret MIL STD’s, project/customer test specifications
• Strong background in environmental test techniques. Knowledgeable use of systems to test equipment for shock and vibration, temperature, humidity, salt-fog and thermal-vacuum is required.
• Able to read and follow detailed work instructions and/or test procedures.
• Must be able to set up, conduct and monitor both dynamic and climatic environmental tests that include the following:
o Acceleration
o Bench handling
o Explosive decompression
o Immersion
o Shock – drop, pyro, mechanical, & synthesized
o Rain – dripping & blowing
o Corrosion (salt fog)
o Temperature – altitude, cycling, storage, humidity, & shock
o Thermal vacuum
o Thermal vibration
o Transportation (bounce)
o Vibration – random, sine, sine-on-random, random-on-random
• Can handle using personal protective equipment (PPE), required for many of the tests listed above due to the loud nature of the testing and equipment involved (compressors, blowers, pumps, solenoids, etc.), chemicals, mass of test fixturing and test items, or exposure to extreme heat and cold (cryogenic).
• Able to lift 50+ pounds
• Can use various common hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.).
• Thorough knowledge of both climatic and dynamic test methods, specifications, and associated equipment is required.
• Able to accurately and legibly record test data gathered from a variety of computer controlled data acquisition hardware is also necessary.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulic/compressed gas systems, cryogenic fluids, mechanical systems, and the safety associated when working around this type of equipment is required.
• Good computer skills and knowledge of Windows and MS Office are required
• Must be able to interpret complex environmental test procedures
• Must be able to interface daily with engineering and may be tasked to run special tests for engineering
• Skills and initiative to complete actions; manages time effectively in order to support multiple projects throughout the work day
• Able to work successfully with associates in other departments and understand cross-functional relationships

Education and Experience:
• Associate's degree in related discipline or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
