Structural Design Engineer

Description:
The Structural Design group is responsible for providing an optimum design solution satisfying requirements for maximum inherent safety, performance in terms of weight and durability, and minimum cost of production and ownership. Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong competency in the following areas: - Understanding of Airplane Structures and Service Histories - Prior work experience with client aircraft design and client green aircraft structural modifications preferred. - Understanding of Design Requirements - Among others, includes knowledge of the Part 25 Design and Construction regulations as well as design methods to increase product durability by preventing corrosion and fatigue. - Understanding of Structural Behavior and Development of Good Load Paths. - Understanding of Joints and Fastening. - Understanding of Materials - Knowledge of metallic structures required. Knowledge of composite structures preferred. - Understanding of Manufacturing Capabilities - Focus on design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA). - Understanding of Design Process - From requirements gathering and planning, layouts, design cycle, to workflow release. - Understanding of Design Technical Definition - Required experience with 3D Model Based Definition (3D MBD) and the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for details and assemblies. Proficiency in CATIA v5 workbenches: part design (machined parts), sheet metal, Fibersim, Composite Part Design (CPD), FT&A, Generative Drafting (2D Drawings). Proficiency in SmarTeam PLM database. Experience with knowledge management processes. Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) tools including use of parameters, design tables, and Visual Basic macros are a bonus. Proficiency in CATIA v4 is a bonus. Other competencies essential for this job: - Professionally dedicated to advancing safe and efficient airplane transportation with a passion for Structural Design work. - Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work together in a team environment and across disciplines. - Ability to communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly. - Driven, humble, and people-oriented. - Ability to have fun and enjoy the experience. The candidate will be ultimately responsible for producing high quality designs, ready for manufacturing, on time, at the right cost by: - Employing all Structural Design core competencies to develop structural definition of the aircraft from conceptual layouts to final detail design. - Engaging various engineering, manufacturing, and product support teams to complete designs. - Participating in design reviews. - Participating in aircraft build support. - Interacting with suppliers and preparing technical coordination memos. - Preparing engineering reports. - Documenting, tracking, and managing design projects of various magnitude using online knowledge bases and tracking tools. - Providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions: 1. Contributes to planning, developing and coordinating of important engineering projects 2. Provides specialized technical assistance to team members. 3. Uses advanced techniques and modified extension of theories to provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems 4. Determines and develops own approach to solutions within schedule and cost objectives 5. Works under limited supervision; work should only be required. to be reviewed for accuracy and consistency with meeting overall objectives 6. Acts as liaison with representatives outside of the assigned group/area.
