Chipton-Ross is seeking a Test Technician for an opening in Ayer, MA.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks associated with the testing/troubleshooting of products. Duties include, but are not limited to testing, calibration, and assembly of products working from test procedures and drawing details. May perform component testing and be required to set up and make adjustments, and/or repair equipment holding tolerances and specifications. May perform assembly, wire, and other functions prior, during, and after test operations. Responsible for final product quality. May analyze results, implement problem solving and/or develop specifications and procedures. May prepare reports and recommend solutions to technical problems. Responsible for all duties as assigned within the parameters of the skill level assigned to and required by the department on either a full-time or part-time basis. Other duties as required.
Electronic troubleshooting, especially with integrated hardware, software and firmware products, is a key requirement of this position.
Must speak and read English, and be willing to work in a team atmosphere. Must be able to lift up to 10-15 pounds.
Intermediate Level C: Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. Requires 1-2 yrs. of related testing and calibration experience and/or related vocational training. Requires reading, writing and good math skills along with the ability to work from established drawings and test procedures. Capable of working independently, with general instructions and/or assistance on new assignments. Ability to work overtime as needed, with minimal notice.
Skilled Level B: Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required to resolve problems and make recommendations. Normally receives no instruction on routine work and limited guidance on new assignments. Requires 3+ yrs. of related testing and calibration experience. Requires reading, writing and math skills and the ability to work from established drawings and test procedures. Ability to repair/adjust equipment needed to perform assigned tasks required. Minimal supervision required. Ability to work overtime as needed, with minimal notice.
Highly Skilled Level A: Works on assignments that are generally complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required to resolve problems and make recommendations. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and provide general guidance to other personnel. Requires the ability to multi-task, while maintaining efficient and accurate records, as defined by department procedures. Requires the ability to use specialized equipment, and tools, read difficult instructions and work from established drawings and test procedures. Position will also generate test procedures and initiate procedure changes as well as repair and build test fixtures as required. Works well independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work overtime as needed, with minimal notice. Requires 5+ yrs. of related testing and calibration experience and/or related advanced vocational training
Specialist/Group Leader/Lead Person/Field Service Level: Works on assignments that are extremely complex where independent action & a high degree of initiative are required to resolve problems and make decisions and recommendations. Requires the ability to multi-task, while maintaining efficient and accurate records, as defined by department procedures. Must demonstrate the ability to recognize overtime needs and discuss with supervisor, as well as have the ability to work overtime, with minimal notice. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and offers training and direction to other personnel, as required. Position will also generate test procedures and initiate procedure changes as well as repair and build test fixtures as required. Requires the ability to use a variety of specialized precision devices and equipment. Understands complicated instructions, drawings, handbooks, and formulas. Requires leadership skills including, but not limited to, having a positive approach to the work, training employees and having specialized process knowledge and capabilities. Minimal supervision required. Requires 7+ yrs of advanced testing, calibration, and assembly experience and training. Field Service position will require travel with little or no notice.
Education and Experience
• High School Degree (College Degree a plus) • 5+ years or more experience testing instruments in an electromechanical environment • 3 years or more direct supervision experience • Strong problem solving skills • Experience in Lean manufacturing preferred • Experience with electrical test tools (DMM, scope, power supplies, etc.) • Experience using Labview or othet test software a plus
