Automation Engineer - NJ

Chipton-Ross is seeking an Automation Engineer in Newark, NJ.

Provides technical expertise for the company’s automated manufacturing and network support systems Project - Responsible for the control system configuration, administration , maintenance and upgrade of the Emerson Delta V process control system - Serve as Project Manager for infrastructure capital projects and to include preparation of investment file, design, implementation, testing, and documentation. - Lead the maintenance, modification, and upgrading of existing control systems through PCN, HAZOP or PHA workshops - Plan and implement the programming of process control systems from functional guidelines (FRS), ensuring compliance with appropriate standards, to include the actual programming for DCS and PLC new applications. - Maintain process automation hardware systems (Delta V, Provox, network, apps) on a 24/7 basis - Manage the operations of process data collection systems, e.g., data historian systems - Manage the control system backup, archiving, and cyber security systems and tasks (anti-virus, patches, etc.) - Maintain all operator interface hardware and applications - Manage the infrastructure control system documentation requirements. - Develop User Requirements Specifications (URS) and software design specifications (SDS) for new project installations - Provide to the Engineering manager, annual budget estimates for necessary supplier support agreements, and ensure such agreements do not expire. - Plan and implement the programming of process control systems from functional guidelines (FRS), ensuring compliance with appropriate standards, to include the actual programming for DCS and PLC new applications. - Participate in the commissioning and start-up of the instrumentation and control systems portions of projects in collaboration with project management, construction management, and process/production engineering. - Interact with, and coordinate with, electrical engineering personnel, electricians and instrument technicians in the conceptualization, design, implementation and start-up of the electrical portions of instrumentation and control systems. - Provide automation and instrumentation support to production operations. - Participate as required in hazard evaluation reviews of new process projects, and PSM required reviews of existing processes. - Continue to maintain current state of the art knowledge in control systems and network architecture. - Provide operator training for start-up operations, refresher training and as required. - Provide input into the development and updating of the automation strategy for Firchem. - Provide input into the evaluation of new equipment and instrumentation capable of providing improved operation efficiency and improved reliability. - Provide support to analyse the root causes of recurring equipment / instrumentation problems and recommend appropriate, permanent solutions. - Provide reports to the Engineering Manager (monthly), and as required to Project Managers. - Prepare control system specifications, as required. - Design and implement process control projects using GAMP methodology and documentation. - Maintain project schedules and budgets. - Recommend projects, with justification, to management. - Coordinate and direct outside contractors and vendors as required. - Lead the program of identifying process automation system migration strategy options, and recommends roadmaps for implementation.

Tasks - B.S. degree in Engineering preferably Chemical - 5-10 years hands-on experience in the chemical process industry, preferably in the fine chemical or pharmaceutical industry. - Demonstrated ability to design control systems and to develop control strategies. - Specific technical knowledge and experience in chemical process control and instrumentation design and installation, of both batch and continuous processes. - Specific knowledge of process control languages and programming for both batch and continuous applications (PLC and Emerson Delta V preferred) - Basic knowledge and understanding of chemical unit operations preferred - distillation and reactors. - Basic knowledge of network architecture including OSI PI. Logmate, CITRIX - Experience and knowledge to lead and coordinate design, bidding, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems, instrumentation and control systems, telecommunication systems, and building security systems. Demonstrated project management experience. - Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, ISA and ANSI standards, specifically ANSI/ISA-84, 88, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, GAMP methodology - Knowledge of OSHA PSM elements, “HAZOPS” and safe design standards. - Knowledge of various commercially available industrial control system components; fieldbus, HART, remote I/O’s, etc. - Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications. Skilled in Excel. - Knowledge of Microsoft administration for servers, PC OS, networks - Working knowledge of SQL. - Knowledge of OPC a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret statistical data, general business periodicals, professional journals, engineering diagrams, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and employees. Ability to work with mathematical and statistical concepts, through the level of calculus. Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to critically evaluate results, make recommendations and reports on projects. A working knowledge of operating systems, networks, databases, cybersecurity, and computer hardware is required. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, Project, Powerpoint. Familiarity with Delta Control System. OSI PI Historian a plus. Emerson Delta V, OSI PI, CITRIX certified preferred. Microsoft administration a plus. - Provide technical leadership for Instrument and control team members. Manage vendors and contractors. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Must be able to work in a production and construction environment. - National and international travel is occasionally required.
