Production Designer - CA

Chipton-Ross is seeking a Production Designerfor an opening in Carlsbad, CA.

The Industrial Designer will work closely with the product design & experience team, developing creative concepts, as well as work on projects independently and collaborate as part of a greater project team effort. Core to the R&D Design Center, as part of the new product development (NPD) project teams, the role of an industrial designer is to deliver product excellence through innovative and novel product design solutions from concept to manufacture-able design specifications. Responsibilities include keeping abreast of current design trends while providing creative direction in the area of human factors and ergonomics best practices. Support in preparation of detailed design specifications as well as prototype (mock-up) fabrication, rapid concept sketches, 2D renderings and 3D CAD modeling. Assist in the preparation of presentations as necessary e.g. research trends in materials, finishes, color and other competitive product research work.

Perform rapid design brainstorm sketches and 2D renderings to 3D CAD surface geometry form / styling details. These designs or drawings may be for products, or prototypes, including components, assemblies, fixtures or tools, and may be new designs or modifications to existing designs

Assist with maintaining the ID standards: form, material, finish, color, branding etc.
Support development of simple cast or molded designs, subject to extensive peer review
Ensure documentation completely and correctly records the design:
BOM accuracy
Drawing accuracy and completeness
CAD database completeness, robustness, and accuracy
Specification Sheets
Other documents related to the product or design
Track status of design, design database/drawings, prototypes, costs
Coordinates with manufacturing (local & overseas) to ensure final product meets design specifications, including CRO documentation processes
Collaboration with operations on key activities such as cost reduction via common design elements and sourcing of common parts
Coordinates with manufacturing to assure regulatory compliance
Coordinate with engineering project management to maintain ID standards throughout the product creation process

3-D CAD Solid Modeling: at least 1 year formal training/experience (SolidWorks or ProE)
Advanced skill level with Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator? (or comparable applications)
Advanced illustration, real-time sketching and photorealistic rendering skills
Extensive experience with rapid prototyping and model development
Working knowledge of manufacturing and materials processes
Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing processes involving plastic, metal, electrical and electronic and packaging components?
Ability to read and understand mechanical prints and specifications.
Ability to work cooperatively in a project team environment.
High degree of mechanical aptitude
Good written, verbal and visual communications skills
Strong visual communication & presentation skills
Good attention to detail, organizational and follow up skills
Windows, MSOffice proficiency

BA in Industrial Design or related discipline required
