We have an Excellent Contract to Hire position for a Principal Big Data Engineer to join a leading Company located in the Charleston, SC area.

**U.S. Citizenship Required.

Seeking a Principal Big Data Engineer in Charleston, SC, to support the health analytics/health informatics technologies team and build/implement breakthrough solutions that help improve healthcare delivery for millions of active, reserve, and retired militaries and their beneficiaries worldwide. We’re seeking individuals who know and understand healthcare delivery, advanced health data analytics, electronic healthcare records end to end. We need to experience healthcare-focused professionals who know and understand the importance of improving electronic healthcare records and healthcare records management. The Principal Big Data Engineer develops parallel data-intensive systems using Big Data technologies. He/she exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness and applies and produces highly advanced techniques, scientific principles, theories, and concepts. He/she is viewed as an expert in the field. Extensive experience in managing multiple data sources, aligned with healthcare data sets, clinical data cases and experience working with data resident in multiple EHR systems.

Job Responsibilities:
Establishes Data Lake in AWS cloud environment with APIs to access various tiers of data.
Works with the full open-source Hadoop stack to include cluster management, data repositories, analytics software, and schedulers.
Works in public, private or government cloud environments to build scalable systems.
Determines the appropriate database given the data and analytics needs, whether file structures such as HDFS, relational databases including NewSQL, non-relational NoSQL databases, including in-memory databases.
Establishes the extraction of data from legacy data systems into the proposed solution to be able to transfer as required externally with other systems and or organizations (i.e., the V.A., Cerner) and understands Data Governance for Normalizing, Cleansing and Standardizing the legacy data for retrieval and viewing purposes.
Optimizes the distribution of data across nodes and the performance of NoSQL repositories and is familiar with installing in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Government Cloud environment.
Identifies performance bottle-necks and evaluates scaling benchmarks.
Participates with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
Acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs.
Recommends technological application programs to accomplish long-range objectives.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelors and nine (6-7) years or more experience; Masters and seven (4-6) years or more experience; PhD or J.D. and four (2-3) years or more experience.

Must have experience in at least 5 (five) the following technologies.
AWS Government Cloud, Amazon RedShift, Amazon RDS Aurora, NetApp, Data Warehousing,
Data Lakes, QLIK, Tableau, Talend, Informatica, Red Hat OpenShift and Ansible, Python, R GUI, Spark
Carepoint.
Extensive experience with full open source Hadoop stack, Cluster Management, Big Data Repositories (Warehouses, Lakes) and Cloud-Based Data Management Tools, Principles and Methodologies. Custom database sources could include SQL, Oracle, AWS RedShift, PostGreSQL, Mongo D.B., etc.)
Experience supporting implementations moving data into Amazon Web Services (AWS) Government Cloud environment.
Able to build business intelligence data mapping between data elements across various legacy health clinical/medical data systems. Understand merging medically coded data across coding types such as SNOMED CT, ICD10, CPT, CCS, etc.
Able to build Data Warehousing with the ability to query the stored data for Business Intelligence, Analytics, and Reporting. Support storage retention and disposition of data.
Expertise in and with Defense health clinical/medical data working in the healthcare industry.
Must be U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience in Health Systems Data such as Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Military Health (MHS) systems
Previous experience with any of the following systems is highly preferred:
Composite Health Care System – CHCS
Essentris
Surgical Scheduling System - S3
Anesthesia Reporting Monitoring Device - ARMD
Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application -AHLTA/Clinical Data Repository - CDR
Experience with Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence/Natural Language Processing to help shape the data mapping within the solution.
Support secure encryption of interface transmissions from the Defense Medical Information Exchange (DMIX) Data Exchange Service (DES) system and the relational database.
Experience with other open-source data tools like Sqoop, Oozie, and Flume
Ability to obtain Secret clearance
Travel up to 10%
