Lead Systems Engineer (Military Open Avionics)

Location: Grand Rapids, MI (49512)

12+ month contract

Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident

Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Systems Engineer will demonstrate development of systems architectures and set technical direction to a small team responsible for development and integration of avionics subsystems onto military aircraft platforms. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

Support the full lifecycle of systems development for avionics products including concept design, system architecture, definition and management of requirements, modeling and simulation, managing suppliers, leading teams, managing cost and schedule, sub-system and aircraft integration, verification, and flight testing
Interface with customers, partner companies, suppliers, and other senior leadership within the company
Work as part of an Integrated multi-company Avionics and Sub-System development team to define, develop, verify and qualify an open systems solutions for military application
Lead and participate in technical reviews of military avionics systems across the business
Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as subsystem avionics product groups and third-party suppliers
Provide technical support for the system safety and certification processes for military avionics systems
Lead activities such as; failure Investigations, root causes analysis and implementation of corrective actions, lesson learned, issues and design standards updates
Provide Engineering support, within one’s specialty, to teams working on performance, cost reduction and quality initiatives
Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company
Develop and implement training modules as necessary
Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
Minimum 2 years of technical and/or project leadership experience in Military Avionics Systems or related Product design and development
Minimum 2 years of experience in Military Avionics Systems and sub-systems requirements definition, design, architecture, integration, verification, and qualification
Military Rotorcraft experience REQUIRED


Desired Characteristics:

Model-based systems engineering experience including DoDAF, UML/SysML
Prior experience in defining architectures and requirements for Military Avionics Systems
Ability to guide and lead others not in a direct reporting relationship
Strong technical and project leadership experience in Military Avionics Systems development
Experience in sub-system requirements definition for mission systems, displays / crew interface systems, navigation sensors and radios, datalink, autoflight systems, on-board maintenance systems, and integrated surveillance systems
Experience with ARINC 661, ARINC 664 and ARINC 653 development standards
Experience with DO-178B, DO-254, DO-297, ARP-4754 certification standards
Experience using models to simulate and validate the system design and architecture
Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes including requirements definition, aircraft integration, flight testing, system safety, and requirements verification
Experience in technical and project leadership for large military aircraft programs
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
Demonstrated leadership in advancing the state of the art in a technical specialty
