Tooling Engineer

PDS Tech is seeking a Tooling Engineer for Special Projects support in St. Louis 

Job Purpose

Provide indirect support to Project Team using standard knowledge of Special Tooling (ST) and tooling care. Provide support level processing experience as it applies to both materials and techniques for ST maintenance/repair.  Provide assistance as needed for equipment relocation.  
Principal Accountabilities

  • Assist in the investigation of non-conformances and the implementation of maintenance/repair techniques for general rework/repair of ST’s.
  • Responsible for ensuring ST function and general appearance are consistent with company and customer supplied quality assurance standards.
  • Responsible for the account and condition of ST components and all tool details.
  • Support the verification of tool functionality and capability by comprehending vendor supplied technical tool data elements.
  • Produce tool data records that identify general status and condition of ST’s.
  • Monitor ST’s with past discrepancies by assisting in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance (required language for all salaried job descriptions)
  • Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned. (required language for all salaried job descriptions)
  • Responsible for inspecting tools and equipment and performing accountability checklists pertaining to those items. 
  • Responsible for organizing the crating and shipping of tooling to other company facilities.
  • Works with both locations to validate tooling condition and tooling documentation.  Owns the tooling database during the transition of work.
  • Provide assistance to general requests regarding equipment transfers.

Technical Degree preferred or a combination of 2 to 4 years of relevant education and experience in lieu of degree. General understanding of CAD/CAM application is a plus.
Experience and Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years of related experience with a minimum of one year of production tool support experience preferred.
  • Ability to read Tooling Usage Instructions (TUI) and apply as intended.  
  • Requires basic blueprint reading skill and knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment.
  • Effective communication both written and verbal is required.

 Physical Demands

  • May spend long hours sitting at a work station and using office equipment. 
  • May spend long hours walking and standing on the production floor.
  • May be required to use stairs when elevator is not available
  • Must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds of office supplies and materials 
  • May be required to reach with arms and hands and to stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Travel is expected up to 50% during the peak of the transfer. 25% normally.
