Senior Mechanical Engineer

Senior Mechanical Engineer
(US Citizenship Required*)
Pittsfield, MA

Join our team as a Mechanical Engineer to ensure the overall quality of each design model and drawing released through configuration management. Applying the latest drafting and CAD standards and processes, you’ll work to develop best practices for modeling and drafting techniques within the design group. You will also participate in developing such standards and practices to meet or exceed industry standards for the above including 3D Model Based Definition.

• Review and determine the quality of released models and drawings:
o All model, drawing and interference checks against established standards and checklists are complete
o Preferred drawing formats, materials, processes, notes, and note precedence are to internal standards
o Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing has been applied IAW industry practices
o Tolerance analyses are complete and documented in support of future reviews
• Maintain and develop modeling and detailing standards based on current industry and vendor needs
• Provide technical support, clarification, and interpretation of task, code and standards requirements for all discipline design and drafting activities.
• Assist implementing and training Model Based Definition within the design group
• Assist managing configuration of models and drawings entering and leaving PDM software.
• Assist with small scale design tasks including modeling and development of sketches as necessary
• Assist evaluating and appraising modelers and their adherence to best practices
• Assist with Design for Manufacture efforts and implementation for new design projects
• Design and develop in such areas as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and/or machines
• Lead development of, plan, and execute, strategic tasks / small projects by applying engineering and organizational knowledge and expertise to achieve technical goals, ensuring tasks and projects are completed within budgetary and scheduling guidelines
• Actively uncover technical and organizational risks and ensures they are included in risk mitigation plans
• Participate in development of program strategies and teaming strategies as they relate to the assigned task
• Begin participating in the proposal process
• Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
• Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication
• Carry out other tasks, not listed, assigned by supervisor;
• Travel may be required

• Required – active Secret clearance. Candidates without active clearance will not be considered.
• ASME GD&T certification, technologist level followed by senior level
• Demonstrated strong customer (internal and external) focus.
• Considerable proficiency and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
• Grasps and applies new information quickly
• Considerable ability to handle more complex assignments
• Proficient with modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and accompanying drawings
• Initiative, independent judgment, professional execution of projects with little direction
• Highly-motivated, independent, organized, detail-oriented, and strong interpersonal skills
• Considerable knowledge of technical & government/industry standards, and manufacturing/fabrication methods
• Understand and interpret the technical, organizational and process aspects of the task assigned and can relate them to the technical needs of the overall project or organization
• Prefer knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems preferred

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) and 2+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.
• Preferred: AS and 5+ years of experience, BSME and 2+ years of experience, or MSME and experience
