Controls Engineer

Description:
A Controls Engineer with at least 3 years' experience is required for building/programming of automation systems. The ideal candidate has experience in a Manufacturing environment with specific experience in the following areas:

  • Programming of motion controls, ladder logic, Visual Basic and HMI's.

  • Engineer control systems used in high performance machines.

  • Supervise initial installation and optimization of machinery ensuring maximum production potential.

  • Administer maintenance and modifications of existing PLC programs.

  • Efficiently manage multiple projects and processes across a large scope of work, simultaneously gauging task priority.

  • SQL database storage of captured inspection or manufacturing data






This individual will work with other members of the Engineering department and other groups to ensure that labor and material budgets as well as scheduled delivery dates are adhered to or improved upon. Will work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system. Will provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify software program completeness and provide accurate documentation for each project. Will also advise customer on solving technical problems and provide customer with training specific to their current project (i.e. machine operation, programming principles and program structure).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding of robotics, control systems and machine operation with hands-on experience.

  • Design electrical controls for electro-mechanical systems.

  • Must be able to spec components

  • Select, test and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers.

  • Broad range of PLC experience/Ladder Logic programming skills

  • Electrical schematics (read and develop)




  • A self-starter with the ability to work alone or as part of a team in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • VisualBasic or .Net developer skills






The following skills will be considered a plus:

  • Some travel to customer sites as required for buy-offs, maintenance/repair

  • Autocad and SolidWorks software experience

  • Physically wire systems as designed

  • More than 5 years' experience

  • Familiar with NFPA, UL 508, NEC codes

  • An understanding of Pneumatic controls

  • Familiar with Allen Bradley PLC
