Materials Testing & Process Quality Laboratory Specialist

Description:
The ideal candidate will support, perform and manage testing and control of raw materials and finished product quality, ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable government regulations as well as lean initiatives within manufacturing operations.

Some local travel will be required to conduct monthly testing at facilities located in Bridgeport CT and Shelton CT. Typically travel is limited to once or twice per month for each offsite location.

The Specialist will be working in the Materials & Process Quality Laboratory. The role will include preparation of metallic and composite samples using basic machining equipment to perform ASTM type testing on raw materials as well as production part samples. Typical analyses performed include testing of chemical processing lines, metallographic testing, composite material testing, metallurgical testing, raw material specimen preparation, fluid testing, and oven and autoclave system accuracy testing.

Basic Qualifications:
• High School diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized technical training equivalent to a technical Associate degree and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical tasks.
• Experience working in a laboratory/manufacturing environment.
• Strong work ethic.
• Comfortable working with computers and the Microsoft suite.
• Strong reading comprehension skills including capability to interpret engineering specifications and test procedures
• Strong communication skills needed to support team-based work environment.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
• Ability to follow written work instructions required.
• Off-shift work and overtime may be required to support business needs.

Desired skills:
• Knowledge of Basic Chemistry
• Familiarity with oven surveys
• Experience working in a laboratory environment
• Experience performing tests in accordance with ASTM and/or AMS standards
• Experience working in the Aerospace industry or at a NADCAP accredited organization
• Mechanical aptitude
• Familiarity working with basic hand tools
• Experience making composite layups
