Hangar/Flight Line Inspector

Description:
Function
Perform pre-flight, post-flight, Hangar completion, acceptance and delivery inspections on Military and Commercial aircraft for conformance of Engineering specifications and customer requirements.
Typical Responsibilities
•Follow inspection procedures, complex drawings, and specifications; check .lists and other written or oral instructions to perform difficult and sometimes complex Hangar/Flight line inspection duties.
•Conduct inspections as required before and after aircraft operations to identify any discrepancy or malfunction.
•Verify functional performance of aircraft systems, conformance to specifications and operational safety of entire aircraft to include engines and accessories, control system, dynamic components, blades, hydraulic and electrical systems, electronic, fuel, oil and other related systems and aircraft structure.
•Document all non-conformances/malfunctions or deviations from acceptable standards per Inspection requirements.
•Re-inspect after corrective action maintenance, replacement or adjustments have been made on the aircraft.
•Inspect for compliance and incorporation of customer modifications and provide the necessary Hangar inspection documentation for aircraft log book preparation and maintenance.
•Carry out similar inspection duties at both Domestic and International locations as assigned.
•Perform other related duties, usually of a related or similar nature or lesser skill of the group; refer only questionable conditions or recurring difficulties to working leader or supervision.
•Maintain certifications for Torque, Flight Safety Parts, Portable Penetrant and ND.I Testing.
•Interface with both internal and external customer to resolve problems or customer concerns.
•Follow established Hangar FOD and Tool Control Procedures.
•Attend lost tool meetings on assigned aircraft when request by Supervision.
•Interface with manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering/Engineering to resolve discrepancies and any issues affecting assigned aircraft.
•Utilize Interactive Electronic Technical manuals.
•Utilize electronic NMRR system for part rejections.
•Turn aircraft in for Government inspection.
•Work with foreign customer personnel when transferring Inspection information and requirements into foreign customer inspection systems.
•As required segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices to maintain cleanliness of assigned areas.






Education/Experience
4 to 5 years. Requires a well-rounded knowledge of aircraft inspection procedures, manufacturing processes, assembly and Hangar/Flight line operations. Able to read and interpret complicated drawings, follow engineering orders and instructions, interpret military and commercial specifications. Requires two years .high school, plus two to three years' trades training with an A&P license or equivalent. Must maintain current certification(s) as required.

Initiative & ingenuity
Considerable judgment required to conduct Hangar/Flight Line inspection on all model aircraft, perform pre-flight, post-flight and Hangar operations. Make difficult decisions and interpret military and commercial specifications concerning functional performance and acceptability for release of aircraft for flight test. Considerable initiative required seeking out missing information and diagnoses and remedy difficulties. Use ingenuity in carrying out difficult off-plant or other related assignments where precedence and procedures usually are not defined or established.

Physical Demand
General light physical effort required checking and inspecting various items. Climb about helicopter and inspect areas in awkward or cramped positions for short periods of time.

Mental & Visual Demand
Continuous mental and visual attention required to inspect various. items and components for quality of work, proper operations reliability of aircraft and maintain quality standards and observe safety practices

Responsibility Equipment & Process
Probable damage to sensitive inspection equipment would seldom exceed $1,000.

Responsibility Material & Product
Release of helicopter for flight with discrepant assemblies or installations could. .result in .extensive damages, costly repair or loss of aircraft. Probably losses could amount to several million dollars.

Responsibility/Safety of Others
Careless inspection or release of discrepant components and workmanship could result in crash of aircraft during flight tests resulting in serious injury or death of others.

Responsibility Work of Others
Responsible for instructing and directing one or two helpers.

Working Conditions
Exposed to normal flight hangar working conditions including various disagreeable climatic conditions when working on flight field (cold,. snow, ice, wind, rain heat) high noise levels from operating aircraft, flying dust, dirt and exposure to fuels and. lubricating oils.

Unavoidable Hazards
Possible serious bodily injury and permanent total disability or death while working in and 9-round aircraft on flight field such as falls from airframe or partial disability from operating mechanisms.
