Principal Aerodynamicist Engineer

Job Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and driven aerodynamicist to join our team as a Principal Aerodynamicist. In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert for the design, analysis, and optimization of aerodynamic systems across various projects. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team to develop innovative solutions, enhance product performance, and refine our aerodynamic design processes.

Key Responsibilities

Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to integrate aerodynamic solutions into overall product designs.

Analysis: Evaluate aerodynamic loads, performance, stability, and control using empirical methods, hand calculations, vortex lattice codes, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and flight test data.

Testing & Validation: Conduct wind tunnel testing and analyze data to validate computational predictions.

Process Improvement: Create methodologies and tools to streamline the aerodynamic design process.

Flight Testing: Support flight test planning, execution, data reduction, and aircraft modifications.

Research & Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in aerodynamics research and technology.

Design Tools: Develop aerodynamic design guides and toolsets for use by other engineers.

Conceptual Design: Collaborate with the engineering team to develop air vehicle conceptual designs based on key performance parameters.

Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Expertise: Deep understanding of fluid dynamics principles, theories, design methods, and analysis tools.

CFD Proficiency: Experienced with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent or STAR-CCM+.

CAD Familiarity: Knowledgeable in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for geometric modeling and mesh generation.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Flexibility: Capable of adjusting priorities to meet evolving requirements and challenges.

Initiative: Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to guide others towards project goals.

Independence: Able to work independently, confidently making decisions to drive project success.

Education and Certifications

Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field. Master’s or PhD preferred.
Experience

Industry Experience: 8+ years of industry experience with a proven track record in aerodynamic analysis and design, preferably in the aerospace sector.

Prototyping: Experience with rapid prototyping.

Defense Industry: Experience in the defense industry is a plus.
