Chemical Manufacturing Operations Technician

Description:
The philosophy of our manufacturing group is to create a workforce that is very flexible. 
Thus, a candidate for this position must be able and willing to perform a variety of tasks in several different work functions and must demonstrate a mechanical aptitude. 
Under general supervision, may be involved with the assembly, disassembly, testing and processing, packaging, consolidation, storage, inspection, labeling and shipping of chemical materials and hazardous waste. 
Technician may also be involved with loading/unloading trucks and handling glassware. 
Personnel in this position must possess sound interpersonal and communication skills as well as situational judgment and thought process to work effectively in a strong team-oriented environment. 

In addition, the position requires basic understanding of the chemical properties being packaged as well as measures used to prevent exposure, contamination, or release to ensure a safe work environment. 

A focus on quality and attention-to-detail is a strong must. 

Key Duties: 

1. Acid wash Teflon and stainless steel valves. 
2. Acid wash of stainless steel vessels. 
3. Disassemble, inspect, re-assemble and helium leak check of stainless steel container vessels and valves. 
4. Wash, dry and inspect quartz and borosilicate glassware. 
5. Work in cleanroom and maintain integrity and housekeeping of cleanroom. 
6. Utilize a computer to input and retrieve data. 
7. Apply PVC coating to quartz and borosilicate glassware. 
8. Perform quality inspections. 
9. Package chemicals into quartz or stainless steel vessels. 
10. Operate a forklift and unload trucks. 
11. General Housekeeping duties. 
12. Assist with inorganic and organic chemical consolidation. 
13. Decontaminate certain stainless steel and quartz vessels and complete any required documentation. 
14. Consolidation of hazardous waste. 
15. Make computer entries to document all stages of customer returned items. 
16. Understand and have knowledge of inventory control and cycle counting. 
17. Ability to modify and repair both Pyrex and Quartz glassware. 
18. Participate in Staple Ops Dent Collection and Review process. 

The successful candidate must be able to read and write fluently in English, understand written and verbal instructions and work well in a team environment. 

Per the manager: 
A good demonstrated mechanical aptitude is preferred! 

Assignment hours / shifts: 
May be required to work any one of three shifts: 
(5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM) 
Will be trained on day shift, but then may move to swing or night. 
The person we choose for the chemical processing area will definitely move to swing or nights. 
The person with the best mechanical aptitude will work in our stainless steel build area and we are not sure if this person will remain on days or move to swing shift which is 1:00 - 9:30 pm 

 
Qualifications: 

1. High school diploma or equivalent. General industry experience preferably in a manufacturing environment. (Equivalent education or military experience may be substituted for industry experience.) . 
2. Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and technical drawings. 
3. Ability to wear full face air-purifying respirator and other PPE. 
4. Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform other physical tasks required by the job. 
5. Must possess a strong mechanical background.
