Safety Engineer

Description:
Safety Engineer, Level 3
Location: Orlando, FL (32819)
12+ month contract

The ideal candidate will:

Review product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.
Independently analyze and recommend safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
Develop safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements.
Perform audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program.
Participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions.
Evaluate the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program.
Will support MIL-STD-882 DoD System Safety Program for a Missile weapons system.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Collaboration with team mates leading the safety engineering activity.
• Analysis and evaluation of subsystem designs for safety compliance.
• Development of System Safety Program Plans (SSPP) & Hazardous Materials Management Plans (HMMP).
• Performance of and/or support to Hazard analyses such as System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) bent pin analysis/energy trace, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), and Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA).
• Conduct of safety check lists and inspections.
• Support to design & test readiness reviews and safety working group meetings.
• Preparation of data packages and briefing material for Customer System Safety Review Boards.
• Identification and maintenance of Critical Items List.

Skill/Experience/Education:
System Safety with safety requirements/flow-down requirements and safety hardware/software hazard analysis experience using MIL-STD-882.
• Demonstrated experience in performing system safety analyses (e.g. System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Threat Hazard Assessment (THA), bent pin analysis/energy trace, & Flight Test Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)).
• Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Possess strong computer skills, including in-depth knowledge of MS Office software.
• Ability to present findings to customers and management.
• Strong problem solving skills.


Desired:
Missile related Systems Safety experience.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and sustaining System Safety Program Plans.
• Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in performing Software Safety analysis per AMCOM 385-17 and AOP 52.
• Experience preparing for U.S Government Safety Review Boards (develop technical data package & presentation).
• Qualified as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• Active Secret security clearance.
• Self-starter capable of performing assigned tasks with very little or no direction; interacts well with others.
• Good written and oral communication skills; experience presenting findings to customers and management.
• Analytical thinker with a demonstrated ability of solving complex problems which require ingenuity and innovation.
• Experience working in a matrix organization; ability to work with cross functional teams.
