Design Engineer needed for contract assignment in Colorado Springs, CO


Pay range $30-34/hour (DOE)

***Must be available to work in excess of 40 hours per week.


Job Summary

The Transport Seat Senior Design Engineer ensures robust designs through analysis, testing and support of manufacturing for specialty aircraft seats such as pilot, flight attendant, observer and VIP passenger seats for commercial platforms. The position will provide engineering deliverables through all phases of development from concept generation through certification testing and initial production implementation. This includes identifying root cause to issues, analyzing alternatives and executing the optimal design solutions. In addition, supporting efforts include design release, compliance to requirements, supporting internal cross-functional activities and being the technical interface with customers. In certain cases providing technical direction to engineering resources at our Global Engineering Center in India can be expected.

Essential Responsibilities:

Successfully executes design and development tasks required to certify and release specialty aircraft seats.

Executes designs utilizing Unigraphics NX CAD system and Team Center Product Lifecycle Management software.

Works as part of a cohesive engineering team and Integrated Product Develop Team (IPDT) to develop various aircraft seating products.

Reviews requirements and evaluates new product structural integrity and functionality in support of meeting those requirements.

Facilitates necessary regulatory and customer requirement testing to ensure product safety.

Releases designs into the material management system utilizing Engineering Change Orders

Interacts with internal and external customers and ensures satisfactory deliverables.

Assists Engineering Management to coordinate the timely delivery of product design and customer proposal requests.

Conceptualizes and prepares preliminary and final detail design and documentation of systems components and assemblies.

Supports Bid and Proposal activities by creating a conceptual design and documenting in a Technical Response.

Works as the liaison between Design Engineering located in Colorado Springs, CO and Global Engineering Center – India on technical design tasks.

Proactively identifies design options and optimizes solutions to best meet multiple requirements

Performs other duties as required.




Education Required:

BA/BS degree w/7+ years’ experience




Qualification/Requirements:

At least four (7) years working in a design engineering position, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge of FAA and Aerospace Specifications

Execute aerospace designs to identified requirements

Communicating design issues and resolution

Presentation of project status to internal executive teams and customers

Analytic skills including Root Cause Analysis, Strength of Materials, Statics

Use of a 3D CAD system to execute a design

US Citizen or Green Card required.

Preferred:

Unigraphics NX CAD experience

Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, plastic injection molding, plastic thermoform. . . )

Experience with Plant Operations and Assembly

Experience with Finite Element Modeling and Analysis

Knowledge of upholstery and foam design and execution

Team Center and Team Center Multi Site PLM experience

International design collaboration experience
