Controls Engineer

PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer in Detroit, MI.


  • The Controls Engineer will utilize principles in the process of determining the necessary work to be done with control systems.
  • Controls Engineer will support, improve, and test electrical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Designs and programs new control systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC Modifies existing controls systems.
  • Modifies existing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
  • Assists maintenance in trouble shooting equipment.
  • Develops project specifications and installs new equipment.
  • Selects contractors to be used for special projects.
  • Make decisions regarding the assigning and specifying of control systems Conforms to TS 16949 and ISO 14001 standards and procedures.


  • Provide Controls Engineering support and process improvement work for automated high volume manufacturing lines.
  • Provide production support for manufacturing lines from the cell controller down to the device level (includes ensuring accurate traceability data collection, troubleshooting, scrap and reduction, and improved process reliability.VA/VE activities).
  • Support business unit objectives by prioritizing projects, designing interfaces for new equipment and making decisions that affect the long term production process.
  • Provide vendor management and supervision. 
  • Manage machine controls for projects.
  • Create and maintain documents and/or databases with team support. 
  • Projects typically meet the immediate needs for the business unit. 
  • Work with team members to resolve customer issues related to quality and design, resolve issues relative to the process and equipment and implement the required changes to production lines.
  • Work with Design Engineering to implement changes due to product changes.
  • Review and make recommendations to improve product design and processes, using various analytical methods and tools (Design for Assembly, Manufacturing and Experiments).
  • Work with the core team (Design, Quality, Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering) on new product development and implementation.
  • Approve design changes and verify these changes do not adversely affect the process.

  • BS/MS Electrical Engineering (or equivalent – Majors in: Controls and Computer Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.), or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
